Dealey Dragon Update
October 2016
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
CONGRATULATIONS, DEALEY!
U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr., announced today that both, Dealey Montessori and Dealey International Academy, have been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. Our schools are among 279 public and 50 private schools receiving this honor.
Schools are nominated for the award by the state department of education, and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices. We have waited for six months to hear the good news, and today it finally arrived!
Congratulations to the faculty, staff, students and parents at Dealey. This distinction comes as no surprise to those of us who are well aware of the high standards, dedication, and commitment inherent in our school's community.
Message from the Principal
The first six weeks just flew by and I'm pretty sure we can expect the same from the second six weeks. Education Go Get It Week was a big success! Thanks for helping your children participate each day in events to support college and career readiness. I hope you heard just as much chatter at home about where they would like to attend college, or what job they would like to have when grow up as we did. The college flags hanging in the hallway seemed to generate a lot of conversations about these topics. A huge shout out to our counselor, Ms. Winners, for her leadership with this event!
We have a busy October ahead of us. Parent conferences, Fair Day, and the Dealey Carnival, are just a few of the events we look forward to this month. In addition, Dealey is part of the Hillcrest Feeder Pattern this year, so we look forward to supporting Hillcrest and participating in their Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 7th. The theme this year is Night Under the Stars. Please feel free to join us at Franklin Stadium decked out in your Dealey spirit wear, and don't forget to support the theme and accessorize with stars - headbands, socks, necklaces, sunglasses, wands, etc.
The parade will begin at approximately 5:15 p.m., but we will start lining up at 4:30 p.m. We hope to see you there.
Thanks for all you do to support our school.
Sincerely,
Beverly Lusk
Principal

PSAT Testing - Thursday, October 20th
The PSAT 8/9 will be administered during class time to ALL 8th grade students on Thursday, October 20th, 2016.
The assessment will help your student prepare for the future. By taking the PSAT 8/9, your student will learn which skills he or she needs to work on for continued success through high school and college. In addition, the PSAT 8/9 will identify areas where your student excels and may want to consider taking higher-level courses, as well as areas he or she would focus on to improve academically. Please note that PSAT 8/9 scores are not sent to colleges.
