Duneland School Board Appoints Judy Malasto as Interim Superintendent
The Duneland School Corporation Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Judith Malasto as interim superintendent of the Duneland School Corporation.
Malasto replaces former Superintendent Dr. Ginger Bolinger who retired from her position earlier this month due to health issues.
Malasto received her Ed. S. in Educational School Superintendency from Ball State University. She gained valuable central office experiences as the director of curriculum for East Porter County Schools from 2008 to 2014 when she returned to Duneland as an administrator at Chesterton High School. Malasto joined the central office team of Duneland at the beginning of this school year as the new Director of Secondary Learning and Performance. Malasto is currently in the process of completing her doctorate in educational administration and supervision at Ball State.
According to Board President John Marshall, the Duneland School Board of Trustees are very confident in Mrs. Malasto’s ability to serve as the Interim Superintendent and feel strongly that her leadership will bring the district closer together. The school board has already begun the initial process of the permanent superintendent search and will keep the staff and community informed of their progress.
The School Board would like to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday and joyous New Year!

CHS Musicians Play for Younger Students
A Chesterton High School orchestra quartet made up of students, left to right, Nicolo Lovinello, Libby Gibson, Anekah Fish and Kaitlyn Shideler visited Yost Elementary recently to play for elementary students during their lunch period. This event not only exposes younger students to the arts, it also is an opportunity to engage CHS students in the community. Many of the Yost Elementary students skipped part of their recess time to ask the CHS musicians questions about music and the high school. Thanks to the support of the Duneland community, enhanced music curriculum is available to our students instilling a love of the arts that can be passed down to younger students helping to perpetuate our music programs.

Make-up eLearning Structure for November 26, 2018 Inclement Weather Day
The Duneland School Corporation will utilize an eLearning structure for the inclement weather day on November 26, 2018. The eLearning process was determined to provide our students and teachers a range of days in which assignments are completed and graded. This range will take place from Monday, December 17, 2018 through Friday, January 4, 2019. Students will be in school during the entire school week of Dec. 17-21.
Student assignments for the make-up day will be posted by teachers in Canvas at 8:00 a.m on Monday, December 17, 2018. Attendance is based on completion of the tasks given to students by their teachers. Assignments can be completed and submitted as early as Monday, December 17, 2018, but the official due date for all assignments will be Friday, January 4, 2019 at 8:00 a.m.
During the eLearning window, students will have the opportunity to receive support from their teachers via Canvas. Students can contact their teachers during available teacher posted office hours through Canvas chat or messaging.
Bailly Elementary raises $782 for Riley Children's Hospital
Bailly Elementary recently participated in its sixth annual ‘Slap-a-Sticker on the Principal’ fundraiser for Riley Children's Hospital and Foundation. This event allows students, for a quarter or more, to slap-a-sticker on Bailly Principal Kevin Zeck (pictured above). This year, the school raised $782.82. This will allow the school to be recognized as a 'Red Wagon School' by the Riley Foundation, but more important, the funds will go to support research. Over the past six years of conducting this school event, Bailly Elementary has now raised a total of $4756.18 for Riley Children’s Hospital and Foundation.
