Divine Providence School
September 9, 2021 Home and School Connection
Reminder! Tuesday, September 14th is a late start.
Yesterday was our first school Mass!
A note from our Principal
Our school year has been off to an amazing start! Today we celebrated our first school Mass. The last time we were able to gather as a school for Mass was on March 11, 2020. Little did we know that day how our world would change in just two short days.
Our staff and students have been busy teaching and learning. We have learned new prayers and new protocols! While our protocols from last year are different, we nevertheless keep them as a high priority to keep our students as safe as we possibly can. This mission, though, cannot be completed in school. Thank you for doing your part each and every day! We are thankful to be sharing a part of your child's life.
This mission for our students is not individual, rather a group effort and we need to please mindful of this when your child is not in school. Limit group functions. Err on the side of caution and wear masks, even if vaccinated. If your child is over the age of 12, we strongly recommend they get vaccinated. We want this to be a safe school year, but the safety protocols we have only keep them safe while they are in school.
If your child does become ill, they need to stay at home, as well as all siblings. If they continue to be ill on day 2, they will need to see a doctor for a diagnosis or be COVID tested. We require documentation for their return. In school, we are documenting where your child is in the event a student should test positive, we would know exactly who we would nee to notify.
A concern we have had lately are students who have gone away for a few days out of state. Please expect your child to say something at some point. Do not travel in secret to avoid quarantine or testing. If the visit is less than 24 hours, there is no need for quarantine or testing. A student that has been vaccinated also does not need to quarantine or be tests, but we must have a copy of their vaccination card.
We are a team! Thank you for being a strong supporter of Catholic Education with us. If you have some free time, we need lunch and recess volunteers. We have recently slowed students to help adults supervise our younger Crusaders at lunch and recess, but we need more adults. Thank you for your consideration.
Peace,
Mrs. LeTourneau
School Principal

Safety drills
When it comes to the Police and Fire Departments, the Fire Department will come to our school to monitor one of our fire drills. We do this every year! It is nice when some of the firefighters that come are DP alumni!
Welcome Miss Wittmus!
"I am a graduate of Carthage College in Kenosha, WI with a degree in pk-12 music education. For the last six years I have taught 6-12 choir and general music but am looking forward to getting back to the littles! I love to travel the world and continually learn about different cultures music. I am a very outgoing person and will try and connect with not only students but staff quickly! "
Traveling out of state? We need to know**...
Domestic travelers to an “Orange state” on the Chicago Emergency Travel Order mapmust adhere to:
- 10-day quarantine upon return OR
- Pre-arrival negative test (within 72 hours prior to return arrival to the state) with strict masking, physical distancing and avoidance of in-person gatherings (separate from school attendance). Any test administered by a 3rd-party is sufficient; however, a self-administered test is not acceptable. Archdiocesan schools should accept any negative test prior to school attendance including tests upon return to the state.

Growing with God: Safe and Sacred
Developed to meet the needs of dioceses, parishes, schools, parents, and children, Growing with GOD: Safe and Sacred™ is a multi-faceted, innovative K – 8 child safety and family life program that is solidly grounded through Church teachings and the Catholic faith. This practical and systematic approach to child safety and social and emotional development is based on the belief that protecting children from abuse is the shared mission of families, churches, and communities. Children are empowered to respond to troubling and potentially dangerous situations using the strategies and techniques they are taught as part of the program and to see themselves as children of God, inherently deserving of respect and care.
This program fulfills the keeping kids safe requirement form the Archdiocese of Chicago. If you do not want your child participating in the program, you need to let the school office know as soon as possible.
