Bissagos islands are a chain of 88 islands located in the Atlantic Ocean. Out of all the 88, only 20 islands are populated year-round.
Bolama is the closest island to the mainland, with a population of 10,014 in 2008. Bolama is surrounded by the mangrove swamps, which is known for it's cashew nuts. Bolama is well known for sea life, including marine turtles, and hippopotamus.
