President's Message
I hope everyone is off to a fantastic year! We wanted to give you all a heads up on some of the events we have planned for the upcoming year. We have several things planned for you and want you to mark your calendars now! The mission of the Illinois Reading Council is to provide support and leadership to all who promote and teach lifelong literacy. When we look at planning events we keep this mission as our guide. We are here to SUPPORT you as a literacy teacher. Please let us know what we can be doing, and what professional development you are interested in. We would LOVE to hear!
Looking for a great read-aloud this year? Come hear book talks throughout the grade levels and enjoy a fiesta taco bar at Swingers. This event will take place on September 28th. We will have representatives for elementary, junior high, and high school. We would love to see you all there. The cost is just $10. Look for a flyer to be coming out next week.
We can’t wait to treat our building liaisons to a pizza dinner to thank them for all their help throughout the year! We will be having pizza at Monical’s on September 20th at 5:00. We are looking forward to passing along our appreciation.
We are also looking forward to our book club this year which will be Stephanie Harvey and Annie Ward’s new book (coming out September 15th) From Striving to Thriving. This will be starting in October and go through April. We will be offering 6 CPDU’s for this book club. Look for this flyer and sign up to be coming soon.
I hope everyone has a fantastic year and we hope to see you at an upcoming event!
