Support Ukraine Day - 8.3.22

We know you will be well-aware of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine right now. Our children have asked that we do something to help and we would like to offer our support by holding a non-uniform, fundraising day. For a suggested cash donation of £1, the children can come to school dressed in blue and yellow: the colours of Ukraine’s national flag. As global citizens, we aim to raise as much money as possible to support our neighbours in need. This event will take place on Tuesday, 8th March - please help us to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Please read Lucy’s letter to find out more.

Cricket Coaching.

Is your child in Year 4, 5 or 6 and keen to try a new sport?

Hillam & Monk Fryston Cricket Club are delighted to invite pupils of Monk Fryston Primary's Years 4, 5 and 6 to join our Under 9s and Under 11 indoor nets coaching sessions, starting on 4th March. Cricket is an excellent all-round sport and there’s something for everyone across fielding, batting and bowling. Don’t worry if you’ve never played before, everyone is welcome and full skills coaching is given. If you have played before and would like to get back in to it, come and join us!

When the season starts in May, our teams will be part of the York & District Junior League and we have a fantastic mix of girls and boys playing in exciting, engaging and safe games with fully trained & DBS certified coaches; coaching will be on Friday nights.

We are also running winter nets training sessions for Years 7 & 8, if there are older siblings who would like to join the Under 13 squad. In matches, players are rotated equally and we ensure there are many opportunities for development but above all, it’s about enjoying the game.

Dates for your diary: Starting Friday 4th March: soft ball & hard ball indoor nets sessions. No experience needed, just come & join in. Indoor nets will run every Friday from 4th March at Brigshaw School, WF10 2HR. Practice runs from 6pm to 7pm for school years 4 to 6, and 7pm to 8pm for years 7 & 8. All equipment is provided, no special kit necessary.

May 2022: All Stars and Dynamos will start again for ages 5 to 11 - more info coming soon!

Pupil Absence Requests

This form should be completed by the parent/carer and returned to the school as far in advance as possible and preferably preferably with sufficient notice before the first intended day of absence.

The DfE regulations for attendance state that leave of absence during term-time should not be granted by schools unless there are ‘exceptional circumstances.’ Parents/carers must obtain the school’s permission before making any arrangements for leave in exceptional circumstances, otherwise the absence will be recorded as unauthorised and may result in a penalty notice being served.

Parent Volunteers

We hope to be able to welcome volunteers into school very soon. However, any previous DBS check will have now expired and will need to be renewed. If you would like to volunteer to help in school on a regular basis in future, please contact the office so that we can begin the process in applying for a new DBS. You will need to bring in some ID, a current passport, driving licence and utility bill issued within the last 3 months. We will also need 2 character references so please also provide the names and email addresses of 2 people who could provide this for you. Thank you for your continued support.
