Breeze Hill Weekly Update
January 7, 2022
Return to School
Changes to the Instructional/Dismissal Times starting January 11, 2022
Due to a recent agreement between Vista Unified School District and the Vista Teachers Association to use two of the 182 instructional days as professional development days, the district and union have agreed to add lost instructional minutes needed to meet the state's minimum requirements to the remaining school days for the 2021-2022 school year. The changes will affect all elementary schools with TK-5 classrooms.
Three additional minutes will be added to the end of each school day beginning January 11, 2022. This will provide the district with the needed minutes to meet all required minimum minutes for all elementary grade spans.
New student/bell times for the school day at Breeze Hill starting Tuesday, January 11, 2022 will be:
8:00 - 12:54
Tuesday - Friday
8:00 - 2:21
A Message from the Superintendent - COVID 19 At Home Test Kits for Students are Available for Pick-up
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have received our shipment of COVID-19 At-Home Test Kits for students. Each kit has two tests available.
The purpose of these test kits is for parents to test their students at home 24 hours prior to returning to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. These test kits are only intended for students.
For parents to receive a test kit, they will need to provide the student(s) full name, school attending, and grade level so that we may register the delivery in our information system. The student does not need to be present to receive the test kit. Parents who have multiple students in the district will get one test kit per student.
We have created two distribution centers for families. We have also created a short video in English and Spanish demonstrating how to administer the student at-home test kits.
Student At-Home Testing Kit Distribution Centers:
Distribution Center 1: Vista Innovation Center
836 Olive Avenue, Vista CA
Distribution Center 2: Vista High School
1 Panther Way Vista, CA
Hours of Operation: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Dates of Operation: Friday, January 7, Saturday, January 8, Monday, January 10, 2022
While there is no statewide testing mandate for students to return to school, families are encouraged to take advantage of this added layer of health and safety protection so that we may ensure that all of our students and staff members are safe.
Understanding the Results:
We encourage you to use the at-home COVID-19 kit to test your student(s) on Monday, January 10, 2022 (24 hours prior to the start of school on Tuesday, January 11th), and use the list below as reference for the results:
Should your student test positive, keep your student home from school, and contact your doctor and your school right away.
If the results of your student’s at-home test are unclear, please retest at school or at one of our district-sponsored testing sites.
If your student has symptoms (like cough and fever) or has been in contact with someone with COVID-19, please keep them home, and use your test to see if they are COVID-19 positive. In addition, please contact their school before they return as more testing may be needed.
And finally, if your student’s test is negative and your student feels well and has no COVID-19 symptoms, we look forward to welcoming them back to campus.
The month of December showed a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases throughout our community, county, and state. We must all work together to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on student access to in-person learning. Vista Unified is grateful to those families willing to do their part to keep our schools safe and open for in-person learning.
We're all in this together
