BPS PARENT UNIVERSITY FAMILY STEM CONFERENCE HELD AT DEARBORN
FAMILY STEM CONFERENCE
A number of activities were presented to students and parents; some of these included;
- Design and Build a Parachute, offered by Eva Clarke from the Science Certainly is Fun Initiative, (sci-fi)
- Everyone can do STEM! STEM Activities to do at home, offered by Melissa Higgins from the Boston Children's Museum.
- The balance between hands-on and deeper thinking, offered by Dearborn staff member Dr. Michael Dixon.
A big shout out to all of the volunteers, presenters, BPS staff, and participants for making this a worthwhile event for all!
The Center on Chinese Education at Columbia University is a leading academic center on Chinese education research, training, and academic exchanges in the U.S. They have hosted numerous seminars and workshops for Chinese educational leaders, policy makers, practitioners, and researchers over the past two decades.
The Center hosted a delegation of six elementary and middle school principals from Shenzhen, China during the week of December 2. The delegation attended seminars and visited local schools in New York. Later that week, they took a quick trip to Boston and the Chinese principals visited the Dearborn STEM Academy.
The first session of middle school ESL/SLIFE peer tutoring took place during WIN time last Thursday. Here are some pictures of the students hard at work!

This is a fun opportunity to see our program in action, meet our teen entrepreneurs, and shop for holiday gifts from over 20 student-run businesses. You’re free to just pop in and shop or can register as a Secret Shopper Judge. Secret Shoppers will use an electronic scoring rubric to evaluate student businesses based on product, pitch, customer service, and display. Your feedback will help guide our teen entrepreneurs as they continue to improve their products and develop their confidence as business owners. To register as a Secret Shopper, please RSVP to Emily at etrautwein@build.org by December 5th.
