Roadrunner Nation News
March 22, 2021
From the Principal
We are back and we could not be happier to see our Roadrunners back in school. It has been 2 weeks shy of a year since we were forced to close our doors. At the time it was for 6 weeks that kept getting extended. We have had to make some changes due to safety regulations but WE ARE BACK!
Last week was Classified Staff Appreciation Week and I want to say THANK YOU to all our amazing classified staff for their amazing work with and in support of our kids. This includes our office, custodial, lunchroom, Options, Special Education, Bus Drivers and Classroom Paras. In fact close to 40 adults in the building every day support our teachers. Wow! We are truly lucky to have such amazing people who care about our kids.
This month is also music appreciation month. A big SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to Julie Allison and Tami Holland our Band and Choir Directors. They are both doing amazing work instilling the love of music into our students.
While we just got back, we are also starting to look to next year. Our 8th graders are now thinking about classes at the high school and we will be welcoming our new 6th graders. I can hardly believe we are at a place to begin thinking about next year.

Tips for Hybrid Success
Help your student stick to a schedule on Independent Days: have them wake up and get started at a reasonable time and work, with breaks until they are finished. You can also help them select times at the end or beginning of the day to get work done.
Remember Independent days are WORKDAYS. Schoolwork assigned on in-person days will often be due on the next in-person day.
Select a designated work spot for your student to work with supplies available.
Help your student keep track of upcoming assignments in a way that works best for your student. The majority of students will need adult help managing the workload on this type of schedule. You can check PowerSchool and Schoology for missing assignments weekly with your student. Your student could use any of the following to keep track of assignments:
Schoology Calendar
Paper Agenda (available at school or at stores like Target or Michaels)
Lists in a designated notebook
Corkboard with assignments written on index cards (see an example of this system here)

Wednesdays can feel long to students. Encourage screen breaks and exercise.

We have heard from the transportation department that there are no bus passes for students to ride home with friends at this time due to safety concerns and contact tracing. If you have any questions about transportation please call their office at (253) 530-3900.
