Message from Principal Phelan
We had a very smooth transition after our vacation. In other exciting news, we officially broke ground at Lowell this week! You can see all they've accomplished in one week as you drive by the building.
I'm pleased to announce Mr. Connors is assuming the role of guidance counselor. Mr. Connors has been with the Lowell School for over ten years. He began his career as an intern in the guidance department. His recent role has been as a behavior specialist for ISP. Mr. Connors and Ms. Jacovides will support the whole school and see students on both campuses. He will be based primarily at Lowell West. Please feel free to reach out to Mr. Connors if you have any needs. We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Behavior Specialist. I will continue to keep you informed.
Warm regards,
Stacy

Message from Adam Silverberg, World Language Coordinator
5th Graders Choosing a Language
Students in 5th grade will have the opportunity to choose what language they would like to study in middle school. Students have three choices: Arabic, Italian, or Spanish. During the upcoming week, students will have the opportunity to experience an Arabic and Italian lesson from our Middle School Teachers. We will also send more information home about the reasons why one would choose our different offerings.
5th Grade Spanish Assessments
Students in randomly selected 5th grade classrooms at each elementary school will be taking a speaking and listening assessment in Spanish during the month of May. This assessment will take place during Spanish class, and the assessment should last 30 minutes. The assessment is meant to evaluate students' proficiency in Spanish in that moment. This assessment will provide the World Language Department valuable information about the trajectory of our program since it is now a completed K-5 program. If you would like more information, you can visit: https://www.languagetesting.com/lti-for-organizations/k-12-aappl to learn more about the AAPPL test. Please reach out to World Languages Coordinator Adam Silverberg (adam.silverberg@watertown.k12.ma.us) if you have questions.

The Olmec civilization of ancient Mexico is known for its mysterious sculptures of giant heads that rise up to eleven feet high. Touch a huge modern replica in the museum for one day that is based on Monument One, The King. Explore artifacts with an educator that show Olmec influence on architecture, the ball game, written language, and pigments. Handle reproductions and paint a mini-plaster head of your own to take home.
