March is Reading Month! 📖
MARCH IS READING MONTH IS HERE! We are going to "pop in to some good books" and try to read 100,000 minutes as a school by the end of the month! There will be AMAZING prizes raffled out throughout the month to those who are helping us get to our goal and we are looking forward to a super fun celebration of reading all month long, so keep an eye out in your child's folder for more information after break!

Hicks Talent Show!
This year’s talent show is on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023 @ 5:00pm. Students wanting to participate and audition will be asked to prepare and perform a maximum 3 minute act to perform for the school. Requirements and specifications are listed below. Auditions will be held Monday, March 6th from 4:00pm-6:30pm. After turning in the audition form attached below, students will receive an audition time. Audition times will be posted and sent out via dojo. Students may choose to stay after school or they can go home and come back for their time slot. I can’t wait to show off some talented students here!
Auditions Requirements - ******
● All acts should be no more than 3 minutes.
● All props and/or special effects must be provided by the student.
● If an act is singing, the singer must use a karaoke track. There cannot be vocals in the music.
All songs and acts MUST be school appropriate. Inappropriate words, lyrics, implied violence, or anything else not school appropriate will not be permitted. Ask your homeroom teacher or parent for help if you need it :)
If an act is using a song from youtube, they need to write the title of the youtube video as it appears on youtube as well as the artist’s name.
● A signed Talent Show Participation Form must be turned in by the day of auditions.
All acts MUST be at the dress rehearsal on March 14th, 2022 from 4:00pm-5:30pm.
STRIDE with Ms. Peck and Mr. Carlson 🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃
Calling all boys in grades 3rd - 5th! We are starting our first ever STRIDE team at David Hicks Elementary! It will be coached by Ms. Peck and Mr. Carlson. It is a positive program that talks about peer pressure, good choices, healthy eating and so much more! There is a $25 fee for the program! This is a huge discount due to scholarships. Everything is done with the link below. Sign up quick, only 12 slots are open, the season will be starting Monday, March 13th. Practice will run Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:15 at David Hicks. In the past the YMCA has provided running shoes for free for all runners. Please let Ms. Peck know your shoe size via email as soon as you register.

Construction is Starting! 👷
The Bond construction work will be beginning soon! The installation of a 6 foot high construction fence around the field outside of the K and 5th grade dismissal doors is scheduled for next week! There will be dangerous construction equipment stored in this area. Please ensure that your students are supervised outside of school hours to ensure their safety!
Kindergarten Kickstart! 🚀
SAVE THE DATE! TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS! Hicks Elementary will host Kindergarten Kickstart on March 9, 2023, at 1 p.m. Families who come will have the opportunity to learn about the curriculum and meet the staff. If you have a student who will be 5 years old by December 1, 2023 please contact the office and give your information to Mrs. Taylor to add to our list! We need as many families to come as possible, even if you and your child know and love Hicks already! Let us show you why great futures start right here! Family Resource Center at WWCSD
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), which provides services to any student/family enrolled in our District, free of cost. Some of the services they provide are: basic need assistance, access to over 700 local resources, Laundry Assistance Program and material items for those unable to afford them (emergency toiletries, socks/underwear, hats/gloves/scarves, etc.) They are also able to supply school supplies and backpacks year round for any WWCS student. Please contact our Family Resource Center at: 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. Our FRC also has a Digital Request for Services Form, which can be used to request assistance by filling out a simple form. Please contact the Family Resource Center directly with any additional questions regarding their services.

The Internal Revenue Service is committed to providing meaningful service and assistance to meet taxpayers' needs. Many IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TAC) across the country will open one Saturday each month in February, March, April and May, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., to offer in-person help without an appointment.
