BV Schools and What’s in the News

The media and politicians are focusing much attention on public education these days. We celebrate the collective commitment to the education and wellbeing of our youth. It is a worthy dialogue for us all to engage. Unfortunately, not all that is highlighted in the news is the reality of your local schools. We welcome, invite, and encourage our families and community to contribute to the goodness of BV Schools. Our local school board is available to link to the community, the BV PEAKS (Partners Engaged Around Kids’ Success) meets regularly to exchange information about the schools, there are monthly meetings and this Monthly. Each month, we will begin sharing information about topics in public education and provide some perspective on what is happening in your local BV Schools.

This month's topic:

Topic Three: Are math scores declining?

Previous topics:

Topic Two: Teachers are Indoctrinating Students with their Personal Beliefs

Topic One: Most third graders are not reading at grade level and the Science of Reading

BV SCHOOLS GOOD TO KNOWS

BV Schools Facilities

  • Industrial Arts Building will be dedicated and named in honor of the former teacher, Mr. Doug Bennetts. A ceremony to dedicate the building and for the community to see the improvements made using BEST emergency funding and ESSR federal grant money dedicated to air quality improvements will take place on January 12, 4:00 pm at the Industrial Arts building. All are welcome!
  • Preschool - the district is moving forward to apply for a BEST grant to aid in improvements and consolidation of two preschool buildings. Doing so will both allow our preschools to safely and efficiently operate from a single building as well as provide needed space at the elementary school for special programming now occurring in hallways and storage areas.
  • Track and Field - community advocates are collaborating with the district to plan for and seek funding for improvements to the high school track. Currently, the track is not usable for competition due to its drainage and surface conditions. Plans have been drafted and community members are now coming together for fundraising for the project. The project would include improvements to the field as well.
  • Old Gym and District Office - Plans continue to restore the old gym next to the district office, once used for many district gatherings! We are thankful to work with community partners, Watershed LLC, in keeping a part of our district and community history. The district is pleased to invest in the needed abatement work that was necessary whether demolished or restored. Abatement of the roof will be one of the first steps set to begin summer 2023.

BVHS Principal for 2023-24 Named

Liz Barnaby, currently serving as the interim BVHS principal, will continue in the role as future principal of BVHS. After a hiring process that included interviews with several candidates, Mrs. Barnaby was given strong recommendation by staff, students, and families to continue to serve as the principal. She has demonstrated outstanding communication, presence, and a positive culture for all. Mrs. Barnaby holds high expectations for teaching, learning and character. We look forward to the consistent and strong leadership Mrs. Barnaby will bring to the high school. The action to hire the principal at this time in the school year allows Mrs. Barnaby to plan with staff for the next year with stability and enthusiasm. Get ready! The best is yet to be!
