ID Badges
Employee district badges are issued to every staff member. You are expected to wear your badge every day in a location in which it can be viewed by others. If you do not have a badge or left yours at home, see the school secretary to get a temporary badge for the day. Replacement costs for lost badges will be the responsibility of the individual staff member.
Leadership Quote--September
“Wherever you go, go with all of your heart.” – Confucius
Caught Being a Leader
Leader in Me Implementation
By Week 3, the cadence of the school day is taking shape. Continue to point out examples of leadership in content areas and to reinforce appropriate leadership behavior. You may find that students are beginning to notice and comment on inappropriate behavior. This positive peer pressure will further enforce the leadership culture of your classroom.
Guide students through the Habit 2 section of The Leader in Me Activity Guide. Read the Habit 2 story from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Consider creating a class photographer leadership role and enlist this student help to add examples or pictures of beginning with the end in mind to your 7 Habits bulletin board.

Five Keys to Motivating Struggling Learners
The third key to motivating struggling learners is to develop a growth mindset in your classrooms. Most of our struggling learners had given up, believing they could never learn. We do this by providing the right support for them to learn, encouraging them along the path, and celebrating their resilience and successes. Teachers can also ensure that all students are engaged in the learning process. Using inclusive questions will help you engage your struggling students at a higher level, as well as help them see they can contribute to the discussion.
Exclusive vs. Inclusive Questions
Who has ever traveled out of our city? (Exclusive) Who would like to travel somewhere different? (Inclusive)
Who completed their homework last night? (Exclusive) How many of you remember that we had homework last night? Can anyone tell me what it was about? (Inclusive)

Coker Handbook Tidbits-Cellular Phones
Cell Phones-Staff
All cell phones will be silenced and not used during teaching/classroom time, grade level meetings, committee and staff development or faculty meetings unless it is an emergency. Please use courtesy by not leaving your cell phone on when students are in your room, unless it is needed in case of an emergency. Exceptions need to cleared through the principal.
Cell Phones-Students
District employees shall confiscate any wireless communication device that is not being used for appropriate educational purposes or are a distraction to the educational environment, such as, an auditory alert during the instructional day and/or school related activities. Confiscated devices will be turned into an administrator immediately, so that parents/guardians can be notified regarding each occurrence after a telecommunications device is confiscated. Students involved in these types of activities are subject to discipline consequences.
School telephones are for school business and should be used for that purpose. Students will be permitted to use the telephones in the office only in cases of emergency or with the administrator’s permission.
Please note that the District will not be responsible for any damaged, lost, or stolen cell phones.
