Growing hearts and minds for a better today and tomorrow: every day, every way, every one.
Principal's Message
Dear Hiawatha Community,
We had an exciting week here at Hiawatha and EWSD! On Tuesday, we, along with Summit Street School, were recognized and received the Model PLC School Award! What a fantastic way to celebrate all of the collaborative work we do each and every day that is making such a positive impact on our students. Model PLCs are some of the highest-performing schools around the globe. To qualify as a Model PLC, a school must:
Demonstrate a commitment to PLC at Work® concepts
Implement those concepts for at least three years
Present clear evidence of improved student learning
Provide data on a yearly basis that shows they continue to meet the criteria of the PLC at Work process
On Tuesday, associates from Solution Tree came to tour our school, met our faculty and staff, presented the award to our faculty and staff and then presented the award at our school board meeting. I am humbled and beyond proud of the commitment our faculty and staff have for high levels of achievement in academics and SEL for all children. Please check out our PLC journey to learn more: Hiawatha PLC Journey.
Take care,
Katherine
Congratulations Hiawatha Model PLC School!
Message from Mr. Evans
I'd like to say "thank you" to all of you Hiawatha families, past and present, for allowing me to be your School Counselor for so many years. Children have the best school experience when teachers and families work together and this has absolutely been the case during my time here. I will remember for a very long time all of the love, support, and encouragement I've received from you all. I'm happy to be retiring but I will miss all of the families, children, staff, and teachers that make Hiawatha such an incredibly special place!
Be well!

Message from Ms. K
We had a special treat this spring when two EHS seniors, Sydney Parent and Elaina Hertle, came to Hiawatha to make music with Kindergarten students! Sydney and Elaina are part of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, which involves a senior Capstone project.
For their project they started a singing club with Mrs. Bufano's and Ms. Stinehour's classes, joining us during music class for a number of weeks. They led singing and activities, particularly teaching the song Twist That Frown Upside Down and creating a video with the students performing it. We had so much fun making music with Sydney and Elaina and we hope you enjoy the wonderful video they created!
