The Importance of Voting
by Audrey G.
Voting is a right that should not be taken for granted. When you vote, you get a say in political decisions on your local, state, national, and even international levels. Many people don’t get to vote and their voices aren’t heard. With the upcoming election, it is crucial that everyone who is able gets out and votes.
In America, everyone who is eighteen or older can vote. It hasn’t always been this way. For many years women and minorities did not have the right to vote. With the ratification of the 15th amendment in 1870, the government could no longer deny any men the right to vote on the basis of race. This still did not end gender discrimination when it came to voting. In 1920, the 19th amendment was ratified granting women the right to vote.
According to a study conducted by the United States Election Project, 43 percent of people eligible to vote in 2016 didn’t register. People who could have voted to make real change decided to neglect the fate of many important issues. The people who decide not to vote made the decision to allow other people to control their lives.
It is important to vote because you are using your voice. Some people don’t get the opportunity to use their voices. When you vote you don’t need to just think about yourself, you need to think about the people you know. You need to think about what is best for your community and ultimately the world. Next week, when you vote remember that it is a privilege to vote and that you need to speak up for those who can’t.

Why you should vote Amy McGrath for Congress
By: Margaret W
As you probably know, we have a very important election coming up on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. In this election, voters will be determining who Kentucky’s new congresswoman or man will be. It is very important to vote in this election because it will be extremely close. I strongly urge you to vote Lt. Col. Amy McGrath for Congress, next week.
You should vote for Amy McGrath because of what an amazing leader she is. Amy McGrath is a former Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps. She was in the Marines for over 24 years. Also, you have probably seen the multiple negative ads that Andy Barr has on Amy McGrath. Amy McGrath’s ads are not to make her opponent look bad. Her ads are to inform voters on why you should vote her for Congress. Andy Barr has also lied numerous times while campaigning. For example, in a recent add, Andy Barr has stated that Amy McGrath is for open borders. Her response to this was, “That’s ridiculous. I am just not for a wall that will cost billions of dollars that people will still be able to climb over.” Additionally, In many adds, Andy Barr has voice recordings of Amy McGrath. Andy Barr takes little sections of Amy McGrath speaking and puts them in his ads. He does not actually release the full recording because the rest will turn his supporters to Amy McGrath’s side. Amy McGrath also has the courage to stand up to our president, Donald Trump. Andy Barr has yet to stand up to our president and tell him that some of his ideas, may not be the best.
Another reason why you should vote for Amy McGrath is so we can have some change. As you can probably see, there are very few women leaders and politicians. If Amy McGrath gets elected, Kentuckians can see what it's like to have a woman leader. Also, by electing Amy McGrath, Kentucky will stop electing Republicans over and over again. As Donald Trump quoted, “Kentucky keeps on winning!” What he meant was that Kentucky Republicans and people voting for the Republicans are winning. If Amy McGrath gets elected, Democrats will finally “win.” Websites say that if Amy McGrath gets elected it could make the house of representatives even considering Democrat seats and Republican seats.
Next week, I hope that readers 18 or older reconsider voting for Andy Barr. I believe that Amy McGrath will lead Kentucky and improve our state. Amy McGrath will make our state a better living place and better in general. Please vote and please vote Lt. Col. Amy McGrath for Congress!

Fire
by Sam G.
Fire is a power like no other,
Used to destroy people’s lives and everything they own,
A weapon of war used to
intimidate your opponents,
Paralyzing your foes with fear,
It spreads without warning
destroying land,
Fire is a power that destroys all.
Game Review: Life is Strange
If I were to rate this game out of 10, I would rate it 7 ½ because the story is very emotional and it is extremely compelling plus it hooks you into it, and makes you wanna play more and finish it. The game is about a character named Max. She wakes up in class then she goes out of class to the bathroom and then her best friend Chloe gets shot by a boy named Nathan Prescott, and Max discovers that she can rewind time and she ends up saving Chloe's life. The game is based on “the butterfly effect” and the game is all about your choices and what you do whether nice or mean.
Advice from Miss Knows a Lot and Miss Helping Hands
Dear Miss Know-It-All,
I stay awake until 2:00 a.m. Help!
Sincerely,
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
I'm really sorry that it's hard for you to sleep, but I know some ways to help you catch some z's earlier. First off, you should limit screen time and put your phone away about an hour before you hit the hay. This should help you go to sleep a little earlier by limiting your exposure to blue light, Which can be harmful to your REM sleep, or the sleep where you dream deeply. Another tip could be doing something relaxing, such as reading, watching a movie, or listening to calming music. Also, if all else fails, drink a glass of warm milk and a try some melatonin.
Sincerely,
Miss Know-It-All
Dear Miss Helping-Hands,
I used to have a best friend, but then she started hanging out with something else and I had to find a new best friend. I still want to be their best friend but they push me farther away every day. What do I do?
Sincerely,
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
This is a difficult situation, but there's an obvious solution; you need to move on. That might be difficult to here, but you can't do anything to change her mind because she made this decision. Best friend breakups are hard, and they may hurt a lot, but there are ways to deal with your feelings. If you're mad or sad, take a run, play with your pet, run a hot bath, these things will help you relax and deal with your feelings. Also, while you're going through this remember to talk to someone. Finally, find some new friends that will love and respect you much more than your other friend did.
Sincerely,
Miss Helping-Hands
