Inside the SRVUSD Middle and High School Libraries Jan. 2019
Teacher Librarians Teach Teachers
Our flexible schedules allow us to meet as needed with teachers during their prep periods, lunches and during adjusted schedule days. Many teachers also stop in for answers to a question, to pick up resources, or to get quick tutorials as needed. We all maintain professional collections in our libraries and on our website pages geared toward helping teachers with current research in pedagogy and curriculum design.
JoinUs! Here are the sessions that your SRVUSD Teacher Librarians are presenting during our district-wide PD Day on February 15th:
Find YOUR Next Great Read!
Relaxing and casual session. Hear two librarians talk about great adult novels and great YA/adult crossover novels to help you pick your next book! Time also will be dedicated to “window shopping” other titles we will bring. Kerri Knapp and Michelle Harmon
·
Imagination Centers (focus: Inclusion)
Spark creativity and engagement. Explore materials in our
new SRVUSD Innovation Center while talking with other
teachers about how to ignite imaginations. Our coding and
building interactive kits include Spheros, Ozobots, K’nex,
Beebots, and more! Wendy Cunningham and Jo Loecher
·
Read "Woke" (focus: CLR)
This session will elaborate on the importance of building
empathy and perspective as students read to get “woke.”
The session will include professional book resources, a
guide for implementation, and middle/high school
appropriate books, as well as work time to discuss with
colleagues. Kim Carter and Jo Loecher
Leading Stress Free Choice Reading (Focus: RtI)
Discuss joys and agonies of offering students choice reading in this session with two energetic high school librarians. Want to grow your readers and engage students? Find how to manage, evaluate, and offer RtI in choice reading. Nikki Ogden and Jessica Ringwood
