September 2014
Welcome Back!
The first six weeks of this new school year has definitely been eventful for the TSTEM Library. I've been very impressed by the level of participation I am seeing from our students so far and happy to be getting to know so many new students. 2014-2015 will be a great year!

BRIGHT Summer Reader Celebration
Our top summer readers: Abigail Salazar, Graciela Cardenas, Esthela Martinez, and Antionette Betancourt, were honored at our 20th annual BRIGHT Summer Reader event. Our theme this year was BRIGHT Super Readers.
The Maze Runner Movie Outing
Students who read The Maze Runner with the book club were invited to attend a movie outing on September 20th.
The Maze Runner Book Discussion
We kicked off our book club reading this school year with James Dashner's The Maze Runner. We had the largest participation in the book club to date, and a lively discussion where we compared plot and characterization differences between the book and movie.
Good Things Coming to TSTEM Library
- Celebrate Teen Read Week @ your library October 13-17
- Read Winger by Andrew Smith
- Texas Teen Book Festival in Austin October 18
- Maximize your research experience with TexQuest Online Resources
ThingLink permits users- both teachers and students alike- to create interactive pictures. You start with a basic image, and then you can add factual information, audio and video files, questions, and photos. All of these factors add up to create an innovative lesson. Whether you choose to use Thinglink as a teaching resource or to present your own research, this is definitely a tool worth trying. Below is a sample Thinglink on Ebola. Youtube videos were embedded into this example. When using Thinglink, be sure to cite your resources!
Flying off the Shelves this Month
Students have taken the challenge to participate in this school year's Battle of the Books team. They will be required to read all 6 of these books and either take a quiz or submit a review for each title. In January, our top 4 students will travel to Southwest High School to compete against the other representatives from each of the PSJA ISD high school campuses!
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
If I Stay by Gayle Foreman
Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
