Pandemic EBT Program
Dear Parents,
We are aware that many families may be experiencing a reduction or loss of income due to the closures affecting all of us. Please know that we can continue to accept applications for free and reduced price meals during the school closure. If your student(s) is already approved for free meals, there is no need to reapply. You can apply online on Skyward Family Access or you may fill out the attached paper application and return it at next Wednesday’s meal pick-up sites.
We realize that breakfast and lunch at school aren’t available, but there are many more benefits that are available for families based on free and/or reduced meal benefit eligibility status. I strongly encourage you to apply if your family situation has changed, or you didn’t apply in the past. Please remember that your children’s benefit eligibility status will remain in effect for the first 30 operating days of the 2020-2021 school year.
If you turn in your application and your benefit eligibility status changes to free or reduced, you will be eligible for Pandemic EBT benefits. The benefit will be $5.70 per day per child, for each of your family members 18 years of age or younger, or enrolled in a special education program 26 years of age or younger.
Sincerely,
Julie Humphrey
Director of Dining Services
Belle River Sailors are Learning...at HOME!
The students at Belle River, like all other students in the USA, are learning in a very different way. Our Sailors are heading to class in their living rooms, bedrooms, at their kitchen tables and even in their own yards. Classroom teachers are meeting with their grade level teams and other support staff each week to develop lessons and to continue to meet the needs of our learners while away from their classrooms. Itinerant teachers send lessons each day of the week too. We greatly appreciate all of the support offered by our families as we work together to make the very best of it!
Many students are having fun connecting with their friends and teachers via Google Meets. It is so wonderful to see snapshots and videos of all of the amazing learning going on! We enjoyed workbook lessons, letter writing, math problems, boat building, scavenger hunt challenges, rain gauge construction, and color wheel creations just to name a few.
Take a look at some of our learning…

2nd Grade Teacher: Kathleen Greib
Kathy knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. As a very shy little girl, it took a special teacher to help her shine bright and feel special. Kathy was inspired by her teacher, Mrs. Craze, and because of that inspiration Mrs. Greib has been making students feel special for 33 years in her own classroom. Kathy started her career in teaching as a Special Education teacher in Adrian where she taught for one year. Then she continued to teach Special Education for three years in Port Huron before making her way to her forever home with the East China School District at our very own Belle River Elementary. Mrs. Greib continued teaching Special Education for eight more years before moving to 2nd grade where she has taught for twenty-one years. She continues to inspire many students, student teachers, and other teachers with her kindness and care for all. She is always willing to offer a helping hand and extend words of encouragement.
Kathy lives in Wales Township with her best friend and husband, Jeff. They have three wonderful children, Travis, Luke, and Erin and a fabulous son-in-law Tyler. She also shares her home with a special family member, Ruby, her dog. Kathy earned her Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from Eastern Michigan University. Thank you for inspiring us all Mrs. Greib.
