A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket
“If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book.” That is the first sentence in A Series Of Unfortunate Events- The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are such individual children. Sunny is only an infant but bites objects and people! She has a language that only her brother and sister can understand! Weird huh? Well, Violet is a young girl who puts her hair up whenever she invents. She invents some pretty crazy inventions that you may think are impossible! And Klaus knows everything that has ever been written in any book! Mr. Poe finds the three children at Briny Beach, he tells them their parents died in a mysterious fire. In this story, the children go to live with their so called “uncle” named Count Olaf. Mr. Poe drives the children to Count Olaf’s mysterious, creepy house. No, living place. No, mansion? Or is it even a house? Anyway, when they go to live with Count Olaf he doesn’t do anything to make them feel like they’re at home. He also knows that they have a huge fortune and he wants to get it! To get it he tries some creepy plans. The children try to tell Mr. Poe who brought them to him, but no one will believe them. So, what will they do about it? What can they do about? Read the book to find out!
This story is hysterical! I love it because all of the characters are so distinct and peculiar! What I love about this book is that the author is extraordinary at narrating the book, he talks to you and makes you feel like he’s telling this book to you and only you. And, this book is one of the most jaw- dropping books I have ever read! It is also one of the most clever and mystical books I have ever read because of the plans and plots Count Olaf creates are very creative! You won’t BELIEVE what he will do!
I would recommend this book to fifth graders. It is a great book for people who like fiction and fantasy even though there isn’t any fantasy in it. It is also a great book for people who like to read adventure. It is also a good book for people who like to read series of books because there are more than eleven books in this series! This book leaves you hanging with pleasure, enjoyment, and suspense!
