FOCUS September 2016
Bowie Baptist Association
We’re Stronger Together!
How easy it is to take on life’s challenges alone. Mind you, it’s not particularly easy to successfully navigate the twists and turns of a fallen world by yourself. But, human nature being what it is, this is certainly our temptation.
Of course alone was never God’s intention. Through faith in Christ we have His presence with us, and His church. So together we face life, encouraging, challenging, assisting, serving, and when necessary correcting one another along the way. We’re stronger together.
This truth also applies to your church. Congregational leaders face the same temptation to “go it alone.” “We’ve got this,” I hear them say.
But when you read the scripture, just as we see interdependence within the local church, we see it between them. Paul’s letters repeatedly affirm this.
The truth is, no single congregation can represent Christ and His kingdom to everyone in a given place. We need our Lord first and foremost, but we most assuredly also need each other.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 reminds us, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” I praise God for our partnership together. I hope you can too.
