MVHS Model Citizens of the Week are nominated by students and staff. Selection criteria is based on the American Citizenship Awards for students who:
- Participate in school and/or community service
- Show a positive attitude toward classmates, school, and the community
- Display an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility
- Possess strength of character and the courage to do what is right
- Promote citizenship with their school or community through other activities
The American Citizenship Awards criteria are endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Boy's Soccer Update
March 4, 2019
The Panthers Varsity boys team traveled to San Antonio to take on Harlan last night. Harlan struck early in the 1st half to take a 1-0 lead and carried that lead into halftime. In the second half it was Harlan that struck again to take a 2-0 lead. The Panthers never gave up and just missed on several scoring opportunities.
The JV boys soccer team travelled to Gustafson stadium to take on the Harlan Hawks Monday night. The Panthers fell to the Hawks 2-0 after a scoreless first half. Both teams fought hard, but the Panthers couldn’t find the back of the net.
Spring Break
The JV boys’ soccer team started off spring break right with a 2-0 victory over Eagle Pass at home on Friday. Both goals came in the first half and were scored by Gabe Human on assists from Nate Marasigan and Vicente Gonzales. The Panthers dominated the game defensively and secured the shutout. The victory put the boys record at 11-5 overall and 7-4 in district.
On Friday March 8th, the Panthers boys’ varsity team hosted Eagle Pass Winn. Both teams came ready to play and it was a tight match. The halftime score was 0-0. The 2nd half was the same, both teams working hard and battling. Winn was able to take the lead when the ball deflected off a Panther player and snuck in the goal. It was an overall great effort on both sides of the ball for the Panthers. The defense held strong and the offense moved the ball well. But in the end the Panthers lose a close one, 1-0.
The JV boys’ soccer team travelled to Somerset on Tuesday and defeated the bulldogs 3-2. Nate Marasigan, Ramiro Moreno and Gabe Human all recorded goals, while David Garcia and Vicente Gonzales were both credited with assists. The boys host Floresville Tuesday for their next district match.
On Tuesday March 12th, the Panthers boys’ soccer team traveled to Somerset to face the bulldogs. The 1st half did not go well for the Panthers. They found themselves down 3-0 at halftime. The Panthers came out strong in the 2nd half, determined to fight back. The Panthers scored 3 goals in the half but Somerset was able to net one more. The Panthers drop a close one, 4-3. Scoring for the Panthers was; Austin Pinedo, Cade Thayer, and Jose Rodriguez. Assists came from; Jose Rodriguez and Jaron Ramirez.
Overall Record: 9-12-2 District: 5-8-1
Girl's Soccer Update
March 5, 2019
The Lady Panthers lost to Harlan High School last night with a final 2-3. Audra Clark scored 1 penalty kick goal and one goal off of a corner kick from outside mid Tori Juárez. The Lady Panthers are now 15-3-2 on the season and 9-1-2 on in district.
The JV Soccer team beat Harlan High School with a close final score of 2-1! A great game from our offense with 1 goal coming from Savannah Perales and the final goal from Maddie Mac. Assists coming from Alyssa Salazar . We had some fantastic saves from goalies Evelyn Quintanilla and Nele Schrolers!
Spring Break
The Lady Panthers won against Eagle Pass Wynn High School with a final 11-0 and Somerset High School with a score of 9-0 over the spring break. At the Eagle Pass game Brianna Peterson scored 3 goals, Audra Clark scored 2 goals as well as Jordan Faragoza . And Rohan Carty, Reagan Lewis Lauren Piper, and Ellie Smith each scored 1 goal. We had several assists coming from Audra Clark, Brianna Peterson, Reagan Lewis, and Jasmine Hernandez. At the Somerset game, 2 goals were scored by Audra Clark and Reagan Lewis. And 1 goal was scored by each Ellie Smith, Brianna Peterson, Cora Christensen, Kaitlyn Davidson, and Jasmine Hernandez. The assists for these goals came from Audra Clark Brianna Mcclain, Tori Juarez, and 2 assists from Brianna Peterson. The Lady Panthers are now 17-3-2 on the season and 11-1-2 on in district. The Lady Panthers play Floresville High School Tomorrow at 6:30pm in Floresville.
Softball
March 5, 2019
JV snagged a late lead and defeated Harlan 9-4. Despite a 4 run deficit, the panthers battle back and in the fourth Stivors tripled, Sotelo Doubled, and Deitra singled to begin the rally for the panthers. In the 5th Gaby, Gwen and Gibson drov in runs to allow the panthers to take the lead. Haby led the panthers on the mound allowing 2 hits and 4 runs over 5 innings and striking out 11.
Varsity played a nail biting game after allowing Harlan 4 runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. The Panthers chipped away slowly with Cassidy Brawley hitting a triple in the 5th, Christine Tschirhart then had an in the park homerun in the 6th. Then in the bottom of the 7th Panthers trailing by 1 with 2 outs Madison Guerrero walked to put a runner on for the Panthers, while Katie Burris came up big for the panthers with a Triple hitting the wall to drive in the tying run and stole home on an over-throw to lead the panthers to a 6-5 victory over Harlan. Trista Miller was credited with the victory after coming in in the 4th inning, she allowed 2 hits and stuck out 6.
Spring Break
Over Spring Break, JV softball defeated Eagle Pass Winn, Somerset 11-1 & Floresville 17-6.
Varsity also took care of business defeating CC Winn 7-2, Somerset 11-1 and Floresville 17-6.
Panthers are currently 7-0 in district. Come out and support the Panthers tomorrow vs San Antonio Southside @ 5 & 7pm, in the last game of the first round of district play.
Baseball
The Friday before Spring Break the varsity Panthers took on the Southwest Dragons. The Panthers came out with a dominant win 9-1 behind the pitching of Mason Doyon. Several Panthers contributed to the offensive performance, but it was stolen bases from Cole Modgling, Garrett Leggitt and Charlie Marsh that spurred the attack.
On Tuesday of Spring Break the Panthers picked up a win over the Harlan Hawks. Zach Hecker led the Panthers on the mound before Charlie Marsh came in relief to get the win. Big hits in the seventh inning by Tannor Bippert and Garrett Leggitt iced the game.
The varsity baseball team completed spring break with a good win over eagle pass Winn Friday night. The score was 6-4. Mason Doyon picked up the victory, while Garrett Leggitt recorded the save. Early offense and good defense helped the varsity secure the win.
The varsity record to 11-2, 4-1 in district.
JV Baseball
Over Spring Break the Panthers JV Baseball Team had three games versus district opponents. On Friday March 8th the JV Panthers defeated the Dragons from Southwest High School 11 to 5. Tanner Haby and Garrett Kanak both pitched 2 innings for the Panthers. Tyler Mangum and Kyle Johnson provided the offensive punch for the Panthers as each went 2 for 2 at the plate, scored 2 runs, and collected 2 RBI’s.
Tuesday March 12th the Panthers faced off against the Harlan Hawks. The Panthers’ offense produced 15 runs in route to a 15 to 4 victory. Jared LaQue lead the way for the Panthers going 2 for 2 with a double and 3 run homerun, and scoring 3 runs. Andrew Perfecto pitched 2 ⅔ innings for the victory.
Friday the 16th the Panthers traveled to Eagle Pass to take on the Winn Mavericks. The Panthers competed well after falling behind 0 to 3 in the first inning. In the end the Panthers made too many mistakes, dropping the game 2 to 10. Jared LaQue gave a great effort on the mound for the Panthers keeping the Panthers within striking distance before being pulled in the last inning.
Tuesday the 19th the JV Panthers will face the Somerset Bulldogs at 4:30 here at Kempf Field.

Southwest Texas Junior College Orientation
SWTJC Orientation at MVHS is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 from 9-11 a.m. This orientation is a requirement for all new/incoming dual credit students. This will be the only orientation offered at MVHS. If a student cannot attend they will have to attend an orientation offered at a different location.
