Weekly Wrap-up
Mrs. Lord's Class
ELA Summary
This week we have been working on our BrainPOPs. For this project we read and took notes on multiple articles about Black Sunday. Then, we wrote scripts and had the choice of making a Powerpoint presentation or filming a video. Last, we made our BrainPOP about Black Sunday.
Also this week we got our books: The True Confession of Charlotte Doyle or Island of the Blue Dolphins. We will be identifying conflicts throughout the book, beginning with chapters 1 and 2.
Flip Cameras
One choice we had for our Black Sunday project was to create a BrainPOP video with a Flip camera.
Editing with Microsoft Movie Maker
We then edited our videos with Movie Maker in the Computer Lab.
Collabora-tion
We worked together to film and edit our projects.
BrainPOP Powerpoint
Another choice we had was to create a Powerpoint to explain Black Sunday.
Writing Conference Sign-up
We signed up for conferences with Mrs. Lord to get feedback on our scripts.
Mrs. Lord was impressed by several students who voluntarily signed-up to meet. Some students even signed up for a second conference after the first round of feedback!
Ballroom Dancing
This week 5th grade students learned the Merengue, the Tango, Swing, and the Cha-Cha. They will demonstrate the dances on Friday when parents are invited. It was a ball! YUK YUK YUK.
Kitten Shower
Thomas M. presented to class a fundraiser that he and his sister, Poppy, are hosting to raise money and supplies for animals. Please donate to this great cause. We will collect through March 24. The "kitten shower" supports Saving Grace Animal Rescue - they find homes for dogs and cats. We are over halfway to our goal of $500! Need a little more! , so donate to them, he is trying to raise $500.
Guarding the Green and Gold
Each grade will bring in their green and gold for this month's SCA project. They will put in dollars and pennies in their grade's jar to add up points. Students my also bring in nickel, dimes, and quarters to put in other grades' jars. This will subtract their totals.
Looking ahead to next week
March 22nd is Picture Day.
March 25th is Maryland Spirit Day.
Cereal Box Book Projects are due on Thursday, March 24.
We will have a spelling test on Thursday. The word list is in our Agenda. We will work on perfecting our knowledge of commonly used homophones next week.
Thank you team!
