History of Modern Dance
Modern dance began in the late 19th and early 20th century. It was started in both the United States and Germany. Modern dance broke away from classical ballet. Martha Graham, the first dancer to ever dance at the White House, is considered the "Picasso of modern dance" as her contribution to modern dance is like Picasso's contribution to visual art. Floor work, contact improvisation, and release technique are elements included in modern dance.
Travis Michael Wall was born on September 16, 1987 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He specalizes in contemporary and jazz dance. He was the runner up for season two of So You Think You Can Dance, and has now returned to the show as a choreographer. His brother, Danny Tidwell, was runner up for season three. Both were trained by their mother, Denise Wall, owner of Denise Wall's Dance Energy.
