Thursday and Friday will be B days where students attend blocks 5, 6, 7 8. We will begin each day with Advisory. Attendance is required for all classes, including study hall and advisory.

In this newsletter, you will get important information to help you experience success and get connected at Tuscarora. We are committed to meeting the academic, social and emotional needs of our students in the distance learning environment. Please find ways to get involved in the virtual world at Tuscarora. We are Huskies and will find ways to show our pride and RISE to greatness, even during this challenging time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of my staff for assistance.

We are extremely excited to begin working with our new and returning AVID students as we navigate what will be a challenging, but REWARDING school year. First, WE HAVE STUDENT PLANNERS!!! We have customized school planners/agendas for all of our AVID students this year. Stay tuned for times/dates for AVID planner distribution! This will help us start and stay organized, which will be the KEY to academic success in the virtual setting!

    Husky Athletic Booster Club

On behalf of the Husky Athletic Booster Club, we want to formally welcome the Class of 2024 to the THS Family and Husky Nation as well as all our returning student-athletes and families!

It is our goal to support every student-athlete regardless of gender, team size, or level at which they participate in Virginia High School League teams and activities. To facilitate the development of student-athletes we engage in a variety of annual fundraising such as our currently active Husky Discount Card sale. We encourage community spirit through our sponsorship of The Tusky Terror, the official spirit group of THS, and through the sale of Spirit Wear. Additionally, we promote volunteerism and support of all our VHSL recognized teams

As a family, we know that we must adapt to the challenges set before us. To assist you in adapting, we want to be there for you and answer some of the common questions about joining your new family:

Why Husky Athletic Booster Club (HABC)? By definition, a booster club is an organization of parents that supports athletics through fundraising efforts and volunteerism. The HABC lifts our athletic programs by providing current, well maintained equipment, well-trained and certified coaches, uniform replacement, and the promotion of school spirit. We do all of this and more to help foster the development of our athletics family.

The HABC provides these services through memberships and fundraisers throughout the year. If you are interested in becoming a member of the HABC, memberships can be purchased on our NEW website,

What is a Family Pass? A family pass is a way to pre-pay admittance into REGULAR SEASON HOME GAMES for your entire family for the whole school year. The pass is purchased from the Athletic Department and is different from an HABC Membership. More information will be available regarding family passes as sports schedules become finalized for the 2020-2021 season.

What is the best way to follow Husky Athletics and the HABC? Visit as a central location for registration and general information. Follow your favorite teams and Athletic Director Tony Tallent on Twitter @TuscaroraHusky and on Instagram tuscarorahusky. Follow the HABC on Instagram @tuscarora_booster_club, Facebook @TuscaroraHuskyAthleticBoosterClub and Twitter @AthleticHusky.

Where can we find Spirit Wear? THS Athletics spirit wear is available at intervals throughout the school year*. The store is open now at and closes 9/4 at midnight. We also have Tuscarora Masks and Discount Cards currently available at on our new website

*Spirit wear is also sold through individual teams to the public and athletes directly via a ‘spirit pack’.

In closing we wish the best of luck as you begin your school year and we look forward to supporting you throughout your time at Tuscarora and encourage you to participate in safe community events like our upcoming Food Truck Frenzy on August 28th (see social media for specific event locations).

    Updates from CTE

The Tuscarora CTE Department is excited to see our students after the long summer. We are developing new strategies and learning new technology for distance learning.

Our Gourmet and Culinary classes are planning some fun, friendly competitions.

Robotics will be working in a Virtual Reality world while working through distance learning. We will also have remote programming to a real THS robot.

Technical Design and Drawing will still be creating wooden puzzles this year as well as designing a house through instructions sets.

Application Development I. This is a NEW CLASS that Tuscarora is part of the pilot program. We will be developing games and programming through Python.

Advance, Architectural, and Engineering Design and Drawing will again this year be exploring cross curricular activities, so our students will be able to design real-life projects. Last year we designed props for the Theater classes!

Noteworthy News from the English Department!

We have lots of exciting new resources and materials to welcome you back to your English classes!

For instance, did you know we have brand new online textbooks this year? We will be introducing you to McGraw Hill’s StudySync; English teachers across Loudoun County have been working all summer to get ready to share with you the wealth and variety of resources associated with this comprehensive textbook program. Did you also know you can still access the diverse classroom libraries that started appearing in your English classrooms last year? Additionally, did you know the county has purchased many new high-interest novel titles for you to study with your classes or in small groups or for you to explore on your own? We are ordering even more novel titles this year, including many electronic texts you can access anywhere. We’re so excited about all the new ideas and activities this year will bring.

Speaking of novels, take a look around your house. Do you still have one or two of the book club novels you were reading in March on your nightstand or coffee table? We’d love to have those books back so others can enjoy them. Novels that belong to the English department will have white labels on the back clearly identifying them as being part of the THS English department’s novel collection. Take a look around, and make a note to return any novels you find. Stay tuned for details regarding the process for picking up materials for all of your classes, and make sure to bring those novels with you to drop off when you come by THS.

We can’t wait to see your faces!

A SHOUT OUT From the English Learners (EL) Department!!

    Welcome back!!

The EL department has been busy since the end of the school year. Tuscarora provided our level 1 –2.5 EL students with an opportunity to attend virtual summer school with four of our EL teachers. The participation was encouraging, and the students worked on a different unit each week of July. The students attended a synchronous Google Meet for an hour each weekday and then worked asynchronously on Imagine Learning, Hyperdocs, and Google slides for the remaining two hours. Very impressive!!

The EL Department is currently looking for donations of backpacks filled with school supplies and food for our students in need. Please contact (EL Dept Chair) if you or an organization you’re associated with is interested in donating.

Looking forward to a Great Year at THS!!

Creatively, from your Fine Arts Department!

Welcome Tusky Students and Parents to the 2020-21 school year. We are all very excited to make music, art, and theatrical events with you this year! See you all soon!
