A NOTE FROM MISS DiNARDO
Children & Chores
Do you have a list of chores for your children to complete on a regular basis? Do they fulfill their responsibilities to the family? Do they expect to be paid for contributing to the smooth running of the household? - Depending on your family dynamics and work schedules, you may have answered in the affirmative to one or more of these questions.
Assigning tasks around and outside of the house is a good way to teach your child to be responsible, and to have pride in their surroundings. Make the job fit their age/abilities. Write down the chores each child is expected to complete, and add a specific time frame within which they should be accomplished. Show them how they should do the job, but don’t expect the outcome to be perfect at first. Whether or not to set up an allowance schedule for this is your choice/preference. It might be fun to instead ask the children what special treat or activity they would like to share with the family every so often, as a “reward” for helping.
