No School Monday, May 30th--Memorial Day
Dear Prairie Families,
This past week was Classified Staff Appreciation Week! We are so grateful for our Noon Duty Supervisors, Kitchen Staff, Custodians, ParaProfessionals, Crossing Guards, Bus Drivers, Office Staff, Librarian, Nurse and Health Tech.
We continue to read Flora & Ulysses as a school. Raffle winners come to the office daily for a prize and are greeted by Ulysses.
Congratulations to the 24 students who have been reclassified as Fluent English Proficient this year! You are invited to the district-wide Reclassification Ceremony on Monday, May 23rd at 6:00 PM. The ceremony will be at Woodland High School.
Mrs. Curteman sent home notices from the Library for overdue items and fines. Please check your student's backpack for a list of any overdue items and/or fines for lost items. Please return items and/or payments to Mrs. Curteman or the front office. This week, students who return their library books, or pay for lost book fines, will receive a small prize.
If your family has a WJUSD hotspot that you aren't using, please return it to us. If in the future you need a hotspot, you can request one from us.
SBAC (state testing) continues for 3rd-6th graders this week. This is the LAST week of testing. Please help your student:
- Get a good night sleep
- Eat a nutritious breakfast
- Bring their Chromebook fully charged
- Bring their own headphones (optional)
- Maintain a growth mindset and positive attitude
We ask that you schedule any dentist or doctors appointments outside of the school day during testing. We do not want to interrupt a testing session to pull students from the classroom.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schevenin & Mrs. Goettsch

Elementary After School Programs Expanding Next Year
We’re excited to announce that WJUSD is developing an expansion of our after-school program. The expansion begins next school year through making afterschool programs available at more schools and open to more students.
The program currently called ASES (After School Education and Safety) will soon be called the “Expanded Learning Opportunity Program” and will be available at all our elementary schools, including Gibson, Spring Lake, and Zamora, and will be open to students from transitional kindergarten (TK) to sixth grade.
More information regarding registration at our new sites (Gibson, Spring Lake, and Zamora) will be available in early August 2022.
Registration for the Expanded Learning Program at existing after school program sites (Beamer, Dingle, Freeman, Maxwell, Plainfield, Prairie, Tafoya, and Whitehead) is ongoing. Click here for more information.

Are you interested in volunteering?
Volunteers will now be allowed back on campuses and in classrooms, although in a very limited capacity.
While we’re excited to begin allowing the return of volunteers, we realize we must do so cautiously and responsibly to ensure the safety of our students and staff. In that regard, we are limiting the number of volunteers to one person per classroom at this time and requiring volunteers to meet the following requirements.
To apply to be a volunteer you will need:
A completed volunteer form (with attached vaccination card, if applicable)
Negative tuberculosis (TB) results attached to volunteer form
Fingerprinting (fee waivers will be available for families who qualify for Free & Reduced Meals)
Be fully vaccinated OR have a negative COVID test within 7 days of your volunteer date
Fully vaccinated means a person has received their primary series of COVID-19 vaccines. Booster shots are not required to be fully vaccinated.
For those who choose COVID testing, the test must come from either COVID Clinic or another testing provider, such as Healthy Yolo Together. We are currently not accepting home testing kits for volunteering purposes.
You can register here for testing with COVID Clinic.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Principal Schevenin, kelly.schevenin@wjusd.org or (530) 662-2898.
