Yoga at Yates Community Center
Tuesdays in the front brick building beginning February 9
Classes for every body.
Some people believe they're not flexible enough to practice yoga. That's like saying you're too thirsty to benefit from drinking water! Yoga is an ancient practice proven to enhance the health and wellbeing of people at all ages and stages of life.
5 - 6 p.m. Gentle / Beginner Series (5 weeks: Feb. 9 - March 8)
In these gentle sessions, you'll learn calming pranayama (breath control) techniques and poses to help you gain flexibility, core strength and balance. We'll stay at a gentle/beginner level. No experience is necessary.
6:15 - 7:30 p.m. Level 1-2 Series (5 weeks: Feb. 9 - March 8)
These classes are ideal for students with some experience with pranayama and asanas. We will focus on breath, movement and balance. Some core work, arm-strengthening poses and shoulder stands will be offered.
With Instructor Teresa Keyes (RYT200)
Teresa discovered yoga when a running injury forced her to the sidelines. During that time of healing and quiet reflection, she came to appreciate the sublime, powerful beauty of a yogic lifestyle. She completed RYT200 training under Sandy Hicks at Grounded By Yoga Studios & Teacher Training Center, where she currently leads gentle and beginner classes.

YOGA EASES ARTHRITIS SYMPTOMS
A recent study printed in the Journal of Rheumatology found that people with arthritis who practiced yoga three times a week reported having less pain, more energy, and improved moods compared to the control group that didn’t do yoga.
YOGA IMPROVES MEMORY
Following 8 weeks of yoga practice, participants in one study showed significantly improved memory skills and creative thinking compared with study participants that only used strength-training exercises.
YOGA LIFTS THE MOOD
Numerous studies have shown that yoga, meditation and breathing exercises are effective in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. Pranayama breath control helps trigger the parasympathetic system – the “rest and digest” response – while taming the sympathetic, “fight or flight” response.
