Important Update: Schedule for April 2020
On the heels of Governor Holcomb's announcement to continue to keep Indiana schools closed through at least May 1st, we wanted to provide you with an update as to what this will look like for the staff and students of St. Luke Catholic School.
ATTENDANCE
HERE is a copy of this week's attendance form. It will be copied to the morning announcements daily and will be included on the teachers' daily e-learning plans. Parents are asked to fill this form out for each child once per week.
SCHOOL SCHEDULE
The feedback that we received from families last week was that 5 consecutive days of e-learning was very cumbersome for students and was challenging for families to navigate as we are all learning a new balancing act of having our children learning at home. St. Luke will be making some adjustments both to our physical schedule and to our daily routines to make future e-learning days as meaningful and manageable as possible. Our goal is to continue doing our best to honor our high academic standards, while also being mindful of the students' and parents' social and emotional wellbeing during this trying time.
MARCH
This Week:
- Monday - No School; Teacher workday
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - E-Learning
- Friday - No School; Spring Break begins!
Next Week:
- Spring Break!
APRIL
Mondays -- No School for students
- Teacher workdays to build digital content and lesson plans
- E-Learning
- Families will receive a daily e-learning lesson plan the night before. (The only exception to this is that Middle School will continue to post their assignments to the Middle School website.)
- The daily emails will alert you to any upcoming live/interactive lessons (through platforms such as Zoom or Google Meet) as well as any upcoming assessments
- No School for students. Students ARE encouraged to use this as a workday to catch up on any missing work they struggled to complete during the week.
- Teacher workdays to gather, review and grade weekly assignments in order to gauge students' readiness for the next week's content
Monthly Overview
Weekly Overview
To maximize the educational time that we have together during e-learning, students will experience the following:
DAILY:
- Prayer (Monsignor will provide a short homily (a "homilette") on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will have Religion class on Wednesdays)
- Math and English Language Arts lessons
- Short PE lessons to encourage healthy brain breaks and provide physical activity to promote overall wellness during this time
ROTATING
- Science, Religion and Social Studies will alternate
- Specials (other than PE) will alternate
This schedule will allow us to reduce the total number of subjects in a given day. This will allow teachers to go deeper in individual lessons, while reducing the total number of different subjects that students have to navigate (and that parents have to facilitate) on a given day. This will look slightly different for students by grade band. Please see below for a more detailed overview of your child's academic schedule.
We will continue to monitor this process and make adjustments, as needed.

A Note from the Superintendent
Dear Friends in Catholic Education,
As we begin another week of providing the best Catholic education and formation possible in light of the inability to do so in our wonderful schools, please know that each of you remain in our daily prayers. Attached you will find a letter from me on behalf of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the Office of Catholic Schools. For your convenience, the letter has been provided both in English and in Spanish.
May God bless you and your family always,
Gina Fleming
