3rd Grade Newsletter
September 4, 2017
This week in 3rd Grade:
What are we learning about this week?
Reading: In reading the students will practice visualizing while they read. They will use their senses to form a picture in their head in order to better comprehend what they are reading.
When you are reading with your student please use the following link to help aide the discussion. Reading Talks
Math: This week in math we will review subtraction and addition facts, as well as the different strategies we utilize to solve math problems with.
Parent Letter- More information will be found here on what your child is learning as well as some of the strategies they are taught.
Science: Last Friday we started our "Our Place in Space" unit. In this unit students will identify planets in the solar system and construct models to determine patterns and relationships between Earth, Sun and Moon. They will describe the Sun and how it provides energy. Students will build on their understandings of weather patterns by comparing day-to-day weather changes in different locations.
Leader in Me: September 5th - 29th:
Habit 1 - Be Proactive
I can tell you what it means to be proactive. For the month of September we are focusing on mastering Habit 1-Be Proactive "I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking."
Art: A note from Mrs. Joe, our fabulous art teacher:
Dear parents,
I'm very honored to be your child's art teacher this year! As third graders, all students will be creating a beautiful paper mache mask which they'll wear for a school-wide mask parade. Since this is a huge project that requires a great amount of materials, we are asking for donations to help us collect supplies for the art class. You may log onto Pinterest.com and enter artwithmrsjoe to view the exquisite masks made by our students from the past years. This project would not be possible without your generous donations. We accept any donations big or small (even one roll of tape or a roll of toilet paper will help us tremendously).
If you wish to donate any materials for the paper mache masks, please have your child drop off the supplies to the art classroom #500 or you may drop them off at the front office (labeled "For Mrs. Joe's Art class")
Thanks so much for your generous help!
Sincerely,
Susan Joe
