SMART Tag begins at Hailey
Conroe ISD is excited to announce a new addition to student safety with the implementation of the SMART tag™ I.D. system. Students will begin using this system on February 22, 2023, with the initial use to scan bus riders boarding or exiting a bus. SMART tag™ uses safe passive technology which enables your child’s I.D. card to be programmed with a unique student number. This number can only be read by the SMART tag™ tablet installed on each CISD school bus, and the I.D. number is the only digital information on the card.
The goal is to have the SMART tag™ system fully implemented throughout the District by May 2023. Upon full implementation, parents/guardians will have the ability to sign up to receive text notifications of when their child’s bus will arrive for pick up in the morning and drop off in the afternoon.
When a student boards or exits the bus, the student will touch their SMART tag™ I.D. card on the SMART tag™ tablet (RFID reader) at the top of the stairs. This will allow the bus driver to determine if the student is on the right bus, as well as confirm that the student is getting off at the correct bus stop. The GPS capability is in the SMART tag™ tablet on the bus, not the SMART tag™ I.D. card.
Student will receive SMART tag™ I.D. cards and a lanyard on February 21, 2023. The success of the program in large part depends on students having their SMART tag™ I.D. card with them when they get on and off the bus. We ask for your help in this regard.
The District is excited about offering its families this new service, and we ask for your patience as we implement this new program.
For more information on the program including how the passive technology works, please visit the District’s SMART tag™ website. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact the Conroe ISD Transportation Department’s The Woodlands Center at 832-592-8800 or visit our transportation website.
Hailey Smart Tag Rollout:
- Students will be issued smart tag ID on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
- Students will be required to have their smart tag ID to ride the bus starting Wednesday, February 22, 2023.
- Students who do not have a smart tag will need to load the bus last.
- Students will tap and go upon entering and exiting the bus.
- Students will be allowed to ride the bus without a smart tag ID for up three days before they must purchase a new smart tag ID.
- Do not bend, fold, or punch holes in the smart tag ID as the RFID will not work
- Replacement smart tags ID will cost $5.
CISD Presents YOUniversity
Our youth are faced with hard things everyday in and out of school. Working together is what it takes to help our kids and each other as parents. CISD in is offering a great day to showcase many resources and a variety of topics to be proactive in preventing a tragedy. Please read below and share with your family, friends, church, really with everyone! 🙂.
Join us on February 25, 2023, for CISD YOUniversity from 10 - 2 at the Jett Center at Woodforest Stadium. CISD YOUniversity is a day to build strong students and strong families. Parent YOU, Teen YOU, and Kid YOU will offer a variety of topics that support our students' overall wellness.
For Kid YOU, school-aged kids in elementary through intermediate will have the opportunity to learn about managing worries, how to make nutritious smoothies with the Montgomery County Food Bank, explore a fun STEM activity with the YMCA, participate in an activity to create college awareness, and enjoy some time jumping in inflatables.
For Teen YOU, teens from junior high to high school will have the opportunity to learn about digital citizenship and safety, peer mediation, managing stress and worries, and exploring college admissions. They will also get to spend some time in the inflatables.
For Parent YOU, parents and community members will have the opportunity to walk through our Hidden in Plain Sight setup, attend sessions on substance use awareness, social media, and digital safety, and hear our guest speaker, Tony Hoffman (11:00-12:30), share his experiences regarding substance use and choices he made throughout his life to get him to where he is today.
Food trucks, face painting, and local resource tables will also be there for individuals to visit throughout the event.

Watch D.O.G.S. at Hailey
WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads Of Great Students) is a family and community engagement educational initiative. There are 2 primary goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program:
1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
We believe that all of us want the same things for our kids and these values unite us. This program serves to bring communities closer together based on these values-based goals. Ultimately, our purpose is to change the country for the better by doing our small part to provide support to our educators and encouragement to our children.
