Roads
Dear Parents,
This week we started our Roads theme again. We discussed roads characteristics. Children were very excited to share their thoughts on what they could observe. We discussed the different materials in which roads can be made of. They even experimented in class with materials that simulated rocks and asphalt.
During out morning discussions we also reviewed different parts of roads such as speed bumps, traffic lights and signs. We introduced concepts as Bridges, Railroads and Tunnels. They discussed what they thought of each of them. They also learned that roads have different names. They learned some important road names from Panama and wondered what the name of their home road was.
Next week we will continue our discussion about roads, learning how they help people in their daily lives.
Regards,
PK Team

Whole Group Experiment
We created a landscape with play dough, children decided to make a straight road. First we added dirt and worked as an bulldozer would . Then a few of them threw some small rock that worked as gravel and they made sure it was well packed. Marcos served as the cement mixer, mixing a mixture of glue, black paint, and sand. Omar and Leila poured the mixture and finished paving the road.
We are still waiting for it to dry. More news about the outcome soon!

10 Things Every Parent Should Know about Play
1. Children learn through their play.
Don’t underestimate the value of play. Children learn and develop:
- cognitive skills – like math and problem solving in a pretend grocery store
- physical abilities – like balancing blocks and running on the playground
- new vocabulary – like the words they need to play with toy dinosaurs
- social skills – like playing together in a pretend car wash
- literacy skills – like creating a menu for a pretend restaurant
