IJA School Community Connection
Support and Information for Parents/ Families
Making the most of school closure
We are in partnership as a school community more than ever despite these uncertain times. We want to let you know that our teachers and staff continue to explore ways that we can help support the learning even while we are all at home. Students were provided learning packets in person on Friday that were also sent in the mail if you or your child did not receive one. We will continue to provide resources on our district website and school website. Our facebook page as well as our phone messages will continue to be updated with new information. Let's Stay connected. Post your learning on facebook.
Distance Learning: (Google Classroom/ Learning Packets and more)
- Please Look out for a survey that the District will be sending to parents and student's.
- Together, our teachers are working to put together some suggested schedules and resources for students to help you with the school day at home be more productive in learning. (Please allow several days as we are developing content and classrooms at this time).
- Google classroom: Have students check their school emails for updates (see Link below on use)
- Teacher Email: Teachers will be checking their emails periodically throughout the days to come
- Learning packets are available through the google classroom and have been sent home via mail.
- We are working to provide learning packets for those who may not have internet or technology access(Your patience is appreciated).
Reminders:
- Stay Healthy/ Safe and follow all direction with Shelter in Place
- Continue to Wash your Hands

A Message From our Neighborhood Librarian at Mt. Pleasant Elementary Neighborhood Library
As you may have already heard, our library locations are closed until further notice. Here are some of the ways we are still helping our customers:
SJPL has created an eLibrary Card that can be used to access our online resources. It can later be converted into a full access card.
Customers still have full access to online platforms such as Tutor.com. In fact, some of our vendors are expanding their existing services to better accommodate the needs of families who are sheltering in place. For a complete list of our eResources, please check here.
We are increasing the capacity of our eBook collection to allow people more access to high demand materials.
We have created a Spring Into Reading Challenge for all ages with awesome prizes.
We have an SJPL5forU Reading Recommendation service so that people can have customized reading lists curated for them.
We are in the process of recording virtual storytimes and book readings. Our list of existing videos can be found on our YouTube channel.
A lot of families have expressed concerns about returning materials. We are automatically extending all due dates and holds. These materials will NOT be accruing late fees and can be returned when the libraries reopen. All card expiration dates have also been extended to accommodate the closure.
SJPL will continue to strive to find innovative ways to provide access and information to our community. If you have any suggestions or comments, we welcome your feedback. Please encourage families to check out sjpl.org or subscribe to our social media pages (@sanjoselibrary) for updates.
Thank you!

Baking = great STEAM learning
After you've done all the measuring, then you can think about the chemistry of cooking. At what temperature does butter melt? Or water boil? You and your child can generate hundreds of questions and answers about math and science by the simple act of making cookies.
Then, once those cookies are made, there are all kinds of story problems! If everyone in the family gets an equal number of cookies, how many cookies does each person get? What about the ethical dimensions of cookie-making? Who should get the most? The person who cooks? Who cleans? Who buys the groceries? Or should everyone get an equal amount?
