SPANISH SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL
Week of May 24 - May 28
From the Desk of Principal Tammy Hart
Dear Spanish Springs High School Parents/Guardians,
It feels almost surreal to think that we are already preparing for the end of the school year and graduation for our departing seniors despite all the challenges this school year posed with Covid 19. As we continue to move forward, we encourage parents and guardians to remain vigilant in monitoring their student's well-being and, of course, their grades through Infinite Campus. We only have 11 school days remining with June 9th being the last day of school for all students.
We are continuing to plan for end-of-year activities, graduation, summer school, and Jump Start for in-coming freshmen for the 2021-2022 school year. We are down to the last two and a half weeks of school! Summer School and Jump Start will be held three days a week on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, and Thursday’s beginning June 22nd through July 15th. Summer School and Jump Start classes will be held from 8:00 am to 1:30 p.m. Families of students who have signed up and/or on a waiting list to attend will receive information early next week.
Just a reminder for our families to check around their residences for any library books, laptops, textbooks, hotspots, or other items to be returned to the school by the end of the year. Our school librarian, Mrs. Elizabeth Hefner, is coordinating efforts and will be communicating the process how these items are to be returned. Our goal is to have all of the items returned so we can get them ready for next year’s students. As we go into the summer, be sure to check the Spanish Springs High School website regularly for updates and information as it relates to next school year.
Lastly for Senior Families, I will be visiting Senior classes starting this week to provide them with a Senior Informational Packet to help guide and hopefully answer questions pertaining to graduation, i.e., mandatory graduation rehearsal—time and dates, graduation start times, guest passes, parking passes, dress for graduation, etc. Please be sure to ask your Senior for this packet so you as parents and guardians are informed as well. The Parent Graduation Informational Letter will be sent by Connect Ed (email attachment) and posted on the SSHS website.
In the meantime, please remind your student to stay focused to ensure they are prepared for finals to earn the necessary credits that will keep them on the pathway to graduation.
Have a great week and go Cougars!
Sincerely,
Tammy Hart, Principal

The nationally ranked SSHS Army JROTC Air Rifle Team, coached by Wade Mendenhall, will be competing in district air rifle matches over the next three weeks.
** Face Coverings
- Any student who prefers to wear a face covering during a game/contest should be allowed to do so but face coverings are not required during competitions. However, face coverings are required in almost every other situation.
- All students and staff MUST wear a face-covering while on a school bus, in school buildings, or on school campuses unless they have been given approval/exemption by that site principal not to wear one.
- Any adult that is on a school campus MUST wear a face covering at ALL times.
- Coaches, managers, sports staff, officials/referees, and parents/guardians should wear face coverings all times, (if they are on campus).
- Players that are not in the game/contest and are the sideline/bench etc. must wear a face covering at all times.
- Student athletes (all staff including referees) MUST wear face coverings indoors and outdoors EXCEPT when:
- Actively eating and drinking (however social distancing must be maintained)
- If they have an exemption given to them by their school’s administration
- When actively exercising or participating in drills or competitions that exert a good amount of energy (such as running). However if an athlete removes their face covering during these types of drills or game then it is critical that the coach ensures each athlete is socially distanced (6+ feet). If six or more feet cannot be maintained during these activities, drills etc. then players should wear face coverings while they perform such drill etc.

A Note from the Student Relations Office
As we quickly move toward the end of the school year, please remind your students of the following safety requirements:
· Students must wear appropriate face coverings at all times (covering both nose and mouth).
· Students may remove face coverings only when eating/drinking. If students are moving, masks must be on.
· Dress Code: We are experiencing more challenges with students wearing hats/hoodies inside the building. This creates a safety risk and does not follow the WCSD dress code policy. Also, we are experiencing higher rates of female students wearing shirts that expose the mid-drift/stomach. Clothing that covers the mid-section is required by the WCSD dress code policy.
Thank you for your efforts in keeping us all safe.
Distance Learning Students- NorthStar Registration for Fall 2021
WCSD has made the decision that all full-time distance learning students will attend NorthStar for the 2021-2022 school year. Spanish Springs High School will not have full distance education students next year. If you would like your student to continue to be on distance learning for the 2021-2022 you will need to apply to NorthStar. https://www.washoeschools.net/northstar.
The deadline to apply is May 28th at 4:00pm.
If your student will be returning to the building at SSHS for 21-22, ensure that they have submitted their course requests to their counselor.
