YouScience - Career Exploration Tool Available - Free
For the high school senior the following questions are usually answered with a canned response or at least a very generic one.
- What do you want to be?
- What do you want to study?
- What is your chosen major?
A small percentage of you have an interest so compelling that you know your path, many of you have no idea what you want to do let alone what you might be good at. This is where career exploration and aptitude evaluations come in.
Crosby Scholars has acquired access to YouScience to offer all of our students the ability to evaluate aptitudes and interests and then research careers and jobs. According to their website:
Interested in getting access to this program? Contact Jenniffer Jamison at email@example.com.
"Students who understand their aptitudes are empowered. They find relevance and a meaningful direction in school and beyond.
And YouScience Discovery is the only personalized aptitude-based college and career guidance solution available.
Students simply take a series of brain games to discover their aptitudes, interests, and matching best-fit careers. Careers they never knew or thought possible.
It’s not magic. It’s 50 years of scientific proof and proprietary algorithms that unlock career success."
Crosby is offering this program at no charge to the student and will also give academy credit upon completion.
Advisor Meetings - (4 Required)
Have We Met? Senior Advisor Meeting Deadline - August 31, 2023
Class of 2024, you should have met with your Crosby Scholars Senior Advisor twice, by August 31, 2023. Your Advisor Meetings are all about YOU. If you haven’t signed up for yours yet, don’t wait–contact your assigned advisor TODAY!
When you meet, you need to bring your ACT and/or SAT scores, your list of target colleges, a draft of your activities and awards resume, and a list of possible recommenders. With all this information in mind, you and your senior advisor will discuss your college and career goals to make a plan to reach them. Get this meeting done as soon as possible so you’re prepared for your next steps!
You need to complete this meeting ASAP. The deadline was August 31, 2023. This meeting is required for all Crosby Scholars seniors.
Senior Advisor Assignments
Your Senior Advisor’s name has been posted in your Crosby portal! If you self selected a Senior Advisor and that person does not appear in your portal, you need to contact Jenniffer Jamison, firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have self-selected an advisor, your advisor was required to attend one training session held in May or June. If they missed the meeting, have them contact Jenniffer Jamison at email@example.com. It is not too late for me to meet with your advisor. I have to speak with them before they can help you meet the summer meeting and monthly meeting requirement.

College Applications are OPEN NOW!
If you have researched your schools, you should know how you can apply. There are many options.
Apply directly on the school or university website (Examples, WCU, UNCSA, Lenoir-Rhyne, etc.)
The Common Application
1,000 + colleges will allow you to apply on The Common Application. www.commonapp.org
Common Black College Application
Access to apply to 66 HBCU with one $20 fee. HOME - commonblackcollegeapp
This application can be used to apply to North Carolina Schools. During College week of "Countdown to College", some schools will waive their application fee. In order to take advantage of this you have to use CFNC during that specific week. Not all colleges waive the fee so please check the list. www.cfnc.org
Telling Your Story: The Application Essay
For the Common App, one requirement is an essay. The essay requirement varies for the Coalition App depending on the school you are applying to. Some will require an essay; others will not.
Remember, in your essay, you’re trying to give admissions counselors insight into who you are beyond your test scores and transcripts. They should learn something about you they won’t get elsewhere in your application. There are a lot of essay options, so choose the one that will let you tell your story best.
You can send your essay to Crosby Scholars to review for free. See details below.
