Hello Fox Lane Students and Families,
It is hard to believe that the third quarter of the 2019-2020 school year will be soon here! As we quickly progress through the school year, it is important for our students to remain fully focused and engaged in their education.
To that end, please keep in mind key events will be happening at FLHS over the next month:
- FLHS Orchestra Concert will occur on Thursday, January 9 @ 6:30 PM in the FLMS Little Theater.
- BCSD will be closed on Monday, January 20 for the Martin Luther King Holiday.
- Sophomore Parent Night has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 21st at 7:00 PM in the FLHS Mary Lou Meese Theater. Topics to be covered include: graduation requirements, BOCES Tech Center, standardized testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests), activities/getting involved, and Naviance.
- Regents Exams will be administered from January 21-January 24 . For students not engaged in Regents Exams, regular classes will be in session. If you have any questions please contact the Guidance Department.
- The Second Quarter Marking Period ends on Friday, January 24. Third Quarter will begin on Monday, January 27.
- A reminder that the FLHS Guidance Department will he holding its Junior Parent Night on January 28 at 7:00 PM in the FLHS Mary Lou Meese Theater. Focus of evening: The SAT, Khan Academy, Naviance, College Research, Creating a Smart College List, Financial Aid and Paying for College, Timeline of the Application Process (Encouraged) (Snow Date: February 4).
- Second Quarter Report Cards will be posted on Friday, February 5 at 4:00 PM.
- Friday, February 7 will be a Superintendent's Conference Day - half-day for students who will be dismissed at 10:20 am.

FLHS Student Named Regeneron Science Talent Search Top 300 Scholar
Congratulations to senior Science Research student, Kenny Poor on being named one of the top 300 scholars in the 2020 Regeneron Science Talent Search for his research project titled Implementation and Refinement of Oscillometric Finger Pressing Cuff-less Blood Pressure Measurement on Mobile Phones. This prestigious STEM competition celebrates the hard work and novel discoveries of young scientists who bring a fresh perspective to global challenges. Kenny and the Fox Lane High School Science Research Program will each be awarded $2000. The Regeneron Science Talent Search scholars were selected from 1,993 applications received from 659 high schools across 49 states. Scholars were chosen based on their exceptional research skills, commitment to academics, innovative thinking and promise as scientists and hail from 192 American and international high schools in 39 states and Guam.
On January 22, 40 of the 300 scholars will be named Regeneron Science Talent Search finalists. Finalists receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., from March 5-11, when they will compete for more than $1.8 million in awards provided by Regeneron. We wish Kenny the best of luck!
FLHS Student-Athlete Selected to the Westchester Golden Dozen
The Selection Committee of the Westchester Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame has selected Michael Washington to join the Westchester Chapter's Class of 2020 "Golden Dozen" Scholar Athlete Award Winners. Michael will be honored at the 48th Annual Banquet at the Westchester Country Club in Rye on January 30 for his outstanding performance on the football field, his high achievement in the classroom, and the difference he makes in the wider community. Since 1973 the Westchester Chapter has honored nearly 600 members of the Golden Dozen and awarded over $600,000 in scholarship grants. Congratulations to Michael and the Fox Lane football program!
