Every Student, Every Day, Soaring to Success!
REMINDERS!
The first bell rings at 7:45 AM.
Being on time is the key to success!
Good morning. Thank you to our parents who came to the first PTA meeting and Watch D.O.G.S. Night! We appreciate your support!
Attention fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and father-figures! We would love for you to spend a day at Harmony Hills. Keep reading to learn more about the Watch D.O.G.S. program.
What are the goals of a WATCH D.O.G.S. program?
1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Who are WatchDOGS and how does WATCH D.O.G.S. work?
WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school.
WATCH D.O.G.S., a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling. They actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.
For more information and/or to sign up to be a Watchdog at Harmony Hills, please contact Mrs. Lupe Negley, Parent Involvement Specialist, at gnegle@neisd.net

HEALTH SCREENINGS 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR
Mandatory Screening Programs are conducted by the School Nurse in accordance with state law and the Texas Education Agency recommendations in each program. Parents/guardians are contacted by the school nurse and a referral letter is sent should a problem be identified. The child’s physician/dentist should return a report to the school nurse within 30 days.
- VISION AND HEARING SCREENING: Students in K, 1st, 3rd, & 5th grades are screened annually, as well as new students to Texas, by teacher request, and referrals to special education.
- ACANTHOSIS NIGRICANS SCREENING: Students in 1st, 3rd, & 5th grades are screened annually.
- SPINAL SCREENING (SPINAL): Students in the 5th grade will be screened to identify small spinal curves for referral for early observation and treatment before the spinal curve becomes severe.
- DENTAL SCREENING- A visual dental screening is conducted annually in February for 3rd grade students by a volunteer dentist from the community coordinated by the NEISD School Health Advisory Committee.
- GROWTH AND ASSESSMENT- all students are weighed and height is measured annually at the beginning of the school year.

Whataburger Employee of the Week:
Ms. Workman, 5th Grade Teacher
Congratulations!
Nominate your Harmony Hills Whataburger Employee of the Week! Every staff member who is nominated is awarded a jeans pass and your comments are shared with them, so if your nomination is not drawn as the official Employee of the Week, keep nominating them. They love the jeans passes and love reading what you wrote. A student may honor their own teacher, a past teacher, a teacher assistant, a custodian, a cafeteria worker, or an office employee - anyone the student wants to honor. You need to explain why you are nominating this employee. What have they done that is special that has had a positive impact on you, a friend, or the school? We will announce the Employee of the Week on our morning announcements and in our newsletter, and he/she will also get a certificate that can be redeemed at Whataburger. Thank you for taking the time to recognize our wonderful Harmony Hills staff members!
Do you want to stay in control and be well informed of your child’s progress?
Attend a Zoom presentation to learn about:
- grades
- progress reports
- assignments
- attendance

Dear Harmony Hills Families,

Our September SEL Focus is Cultivating Positive Identity. Here are some books that teach that a good sense of identity helps children feel more positive about themselves and more open-minded to people different from themselves.
