Great Things Happening in our Classrooms at South Middle School!
Ms. Waller and her students create their own Cultural Heritage Quilt to understand, appreciate and respect differences and similarities in their classrooms and their school as well as understanding what they bring with them individually to the learning community. It also allows students to recognize that people of different countries have their own cultures that may be different from their own. Students research, create and present their piece of the whole class quilt!
Reflecting with a Colleague: When Lesson Plans Fail
The most well thought out and planned lesson sometimes is not successful at least it does not produce the results we were expecting. The following video shares a lesson plan that fails for the first class but with adjustments and ongoing adjustments the learning happens with the next class. The reflection with a colleague validates the teacher's actions and helps her think through the lesson.

Learning does not only happen when it is "teacher managed". Learning is happening all around us. Students are learning from each other when interacting with each other, for example, when allowed to create something individually, as a group, playing games or even socializing. This article shares an observation of a Kindergarten class; however, it is very applicable at all levels of learning.
