The Pershing Elementary Weekly Newsletter
Art, Music and PE, Oh My!
Happy Sunday, Pershing Families!
I hope this weekend update finds all of our students and families safe and doing well during Distance Learning. Between closures due to COVID-19 and the smoke from fires burning across California, we know this has been a stressful time. Please keep in close communication regarding how we can assist you and your child(ren) during Distance Learning and we will make every effort to help.
Our Art, Music and PE teachers have been working hard to build their own Google Classrooms for all Kinder through 6th grade students. (TK students, being typically a half-day program, do not have these classes until they reach Kindergarten.) Tech Services was unable to do this without our staff's help and this week we were finally able to get that set up for most classes. Unfortunately, we are still working out a few errors with the system, and it may not have worked for all students, yet. For those who do not see an Art, Music or PE Google Classroom when they sign into the Portal, your classroom teachers will post the links for Zoom meetings and Asynchronous activities for student to access until it is showing in Google Classroom for all students.
If you have questions about your child's Art, Music or PE class assignments, you may reach out to the specialist teachers directly by email, or send a message through the school office:
Art: Ron Walker email@example.com
Music: Rhennie Boyle firstname.lastname@example.org
PE: Aaron Silberman email@example.com
PE: Kelly Williams firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have questions, you may call our office at 916-979-8076 between 8:30a.m. - 3:30p.m. Press 3 to reach the office staff.
Reminder: Zoom Authentication Update/Deadline:
This week, by August 28th, SJUSD Zoom Meetings will require authentication. Authentication will help staff manage classroom meetings more safely and help prevent unwanted guests appearing in class meetings. It will also prevent students from making up their own names and gives the teacher more control over the settings. Please see the helpful parent-made video posted below for more information to help. I have also posted the link to the San Juan website that explains the steps. If you wait until August 28th, your child may have a problem accessing his or her Zoom meetings until it is completed. I am very sorry for this added challenge. To verify if your child is in Zoom through the authenticated account, while in Zoom, go to your child's profile and see if your child's San Juan email account is listed.
Please remember, if challenges occur accessing Zoom meetings, or with assignments in Google Classroom or See Saw, please have your student or a family member message the teacher through Google Classroom or their school email. You can also email me or call our office staff and we will relay the message or try to assist. We are here to support and we want your child to feel successful!
Back-to-School Night is this Wednesday, August 26th
Please watch for messages and emails from classroom teachers about your child's classroom Back-to-School Night meeting over Zoom which is this week, August 26th. Remember, just like during in-person learning, Back-to-School Night is a time to hear more specifics from the classroom teacher, but it is not a one-on-one parent-teacher conference. If you have questions that are not answered during the Back-to-School Night meeting, please email your child's teacher, or ask him or her for a phone call or one-on-one Zoom meeting appointment. Thank you for your active participation and support!
