Bellows News
Our next set of grade level Town Hall Meetings will be taking place this Thursday, October 13. The focus of our meetings will include lessons on self-awareness and self-management of our use of technology and digital lives in recognition of Digital Citizenship Week. Third graders will learn all about our responsibilities online and how we can present our "best selves" when we are gaming or socializing online. Fourth graders will think about how they can balance their lives on social media and how their media choices can sometimes make them feel. And in fifth grade, we will talk about the importance of good word choice when responding to messages online. We will also talk about being an upstander to cyberbullying. We will also share our thoughts about how we can be kind to others and what that looks like as October is Kindness month.

October is also an exciting time for those of us who enjoy celebrating Halloween. FEB will be hosting classroom celebrations and conducting our annual Halloween Parade and Sing-along event on Monday, October 31- Halloween! Information about this spooktacular day will be shared with families tomorrow via backpack and email blast.
Classroom celebrations will be hosted by Head Class Parents and Event Coordinators and all families will be invited to attend the parade and sing-along. Unfortunately, we are still limiting the number of adults in classrooms for celebrations at this time as we remain mindful of COVID mitigation.
We hope to see you all there!
Class trips are in full swing starting next week with the fifth grade headed to Purchase NY for a community building excursion to Boundless Adventures on Thursday, October 20, and the fourth grade off to Museum Village on Tuesday, October 18. Third grade rounds out the month with a visit to Rye Nature Center October 25-27, depending on the class. All of these trips are aligned to either social-emotional learning, Science and Social Studies and/or other content areas being studied this month.

Important Reminders
I have been witness to some unsafe drop-off and pick up practices that remind me to inform you of the following:
- Carroll Avenue is a public street and the same safe driving rules of the road apply to all families as they control their vehicles. Please adhere to the speed limit when driving past the pick up line and be aware of people crossing the streets
- Children should exit vehicles on the sidewalk side of Carroll Avenue. They should never exit the vehicle into oncoming traffic.
- There has been plenty of "skipping' other vehicles who are patiently following the rules of the road. If you are unable to get on the car line at the end, you can always find a place to park, walk to Bellows, pick up your child/children, and then return to your parked vehicle.
Pets
I love my little Isabella as much as everyone else cherishes their dogs, but we kindly ask you to not bring them to the school side of Carroll Avenue out of respect for those who may be allergic or are fearful of them. if you do decide to bring your dog to pick up or drop off, we ask you to remain across the street with your furry, four-legged friend(s).
Smartwatches, Cell phones, and other Electronic Devices
We understand the need to communicate with your child/children who may be walking to school alone or with a friend and the choice to equip them with a phone or smart device. There are some rules about what happens to their personal electronic devices when they arrive in our care.
First, they are not allowed to bring their phone or watch to class. It should also be powered down and placed in a locker with a lock. We are not responsible for lost or stolen devices placed in an unlocked locker. You can purchase an appropriate lock at your local pharmacy.
Second, if your child is caught using the device in school, we have the right to confiscate it for the day. It will be returned to them at dismissal.
What Makes Your Family Special?
In a much more positive spirit, we are looking to recognize and honor elementary families and what makes them unique and special. It might be your culture, traditions, family history, or special talents. Throughout the year we would like to celebrate the cultural identities of our students and families. We recognize that children's sense of self is shaped by experiences that are unique to them and their families, and by common experiences shared by a community. We want to highlight what makes our Rye Neck community special and learn from one another.
If interested in sharing more about what makes your family special, please fill out the form below and we will reach out to you to schedule a time to come in. We will be making a series of short video interviews to share with our students at school. This is an exciting way to foster a stronger sense of school community and we look forward to learning more about our families.
