Huge Shout Out to Those Making WCHE Staff Feel Appreciated During Appreciation Week

Pictured above are Assistant Principal, Melanie Beninga; PTO President, Barby Schmidt; PTO Board Member and Staff Appreciation Coordinator, Carrie Andrews; and Principal, Amanda Prehn. Mrs. Prehn and Mrs. Beninga presented the PTO with a HUGE "thank you" note from all of the WCHE staff members as a small token of our appreciation for all that they did to make the WCHE staff feel so special.

For Teacher Appreciation Week, One Chapel Lake Travis generously cleaned and completely restocked all of the staff lounge refrigerators with delicious and healthy snacks. So greatly appreciated by everyone!

Our fabulous PTO Board Member, Carrie Andrews, arranged grand treats:

  • Aloha Pola breakfast bowls
  • Chair massages by Massage Heights
  • Breakfast tacos sponsored by Whitney Newton of the Newton Group
  • Paella and salad catered by Mi Paella and sponsored by Kasey Dalby of the Dalby Home Team
  • Beautifully delicious cookies from Sunnyside Britt's Cookie Company, and
  • Daily drawings for gifts.

On behalf of all of the WCHE staff members, we thank the many generous volunteers and donors that made this week such fun for all.

Thank you Lake Travis Education Foundation!

Today West Cypress Hills Elementary received a BIG check! BIG in more ways than one.

Because of the generous donations made to the Lake Travis Education Foundation, the Foundation was able to present our school with a BIG check for $17,371. We are very grateful and plan to use these funds to put much needed new and improved technology into the hands of our students. Teachers will also receive curriculum resources that support the learning needs of our students at every grade level.

Thank you, Lake Travis Education Foundation!

Technology Survey- Parent Input Requested

Lake Travis ISD will once again partner with BrightBytes to learn more about our technology use for student learning. In order to better show our growth over the past year and showcase the impact of our initiatives, we will refresh the data we collected last fall.

Our goal is to gather metrics on technology access and skills, and on our school’s technology environment, to further understand the connection between technology use and student achievement.

We will be asking students in grades 3-12, teachers, and parents to participate in the project via a short questionnaire once again. The survey is available through June 1.

Thank you,

School Supplies for 2018-2019

There are three ways you can purchase next year's school supplies.

  1. Thanks to our fabulous PTO, supplies can be ordered online from schoolkidz at your convenience! The online prepackaged grade level supplies can be ordered from May 1, 2018, through June 1, 2018. If you purchase your student's school supplies online, the supplies will be delivered to the school before the first day of school. Grade appropriate kits are available now. Click here and use account #79519 to view the kits.
  2. LTLov provides a limited amount of free district-approved, prepackaged school supplies funded from charitable grants. If you would like to apply for a set of free, prepackaged supplies, fill out this form and forward it to LTLOV so that it is received by LTLOV by June 4.
  3. Below we have lists of the school supplies so that, if you prefer, you can purchase the supplies on your own from any convenient source. You can drop off the school supplies that you purchase on your own at our Meet the Teacher Night in August.

*3rd and 5th Grade Students also need to have student planners, and these are sold separately from the prepackaged kits. The student planners can be ordered between May 1 and May 25 for the incoming 2018-2019 3rd and 5th Grade Students. Please use this form to order your planner(s.) Planners cost $6 each, payable in cash or check to WCHE. Planners ordered by May 25 will be delivered to students' classrooms at our Meet the Teacher Night in August. Planners can also be purchased at the school during Meet the Teacher Night or from the front desk any time on or after the first day of school.

Our exciting ribbon cutting ceremony for our outdoor learning center was a great success!

Our 5th Graders helped us break ground on our Outdoor Learning Center! With shovels in hand, this wonderful group of students got this project started. The 2017-2018 5th Grade Class has generously donated an outdoor bench and table for the Learning Center. Their legacy gift will include a custom plaque engraved with their class information.

You too can make a "pawsitive", lasting impression in our Outdoor Learning Center! Please see details below and CLICK HERE to support our project.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for our WCHE Outdoor Learning Center and Garden. Your family name can forever be in one of three places in the garden, depending on your sponsorship level. This is a lovely way to:

  • Recognize students for their achievements
  • Congratulate students on their promotion to Middle School
  • Thank a caring teacher
  • Leave best wishes for a special milestone

Platinum level-Garden Shed

Your family name will be on a cast metal plaque on our Garden Shed.

$2500 (one available)

Gold level-Picnic Benches and Tables

Your family name will be added to a cast metal group plaque in the garden.

$100/share (33 avaiable)

Silver level-Brass Plaque

Your family name will be engraved on a brass plaque and attached to the stones in the seating area of the Outdoor Learning Center.

$30 each and unlimited opportunities available.

We will be offering this every year to all of our families.

The money raised will go to the garden maintenance fund and provide the students with soil and plants. We appreciate your support by helping our garden grow!

STAAR Test Schedule for May @ WCHE

On May 14th our 3rd and 4th graders will be taking their STAAR math test, and 5th graders will have an opportunity to retest in math.

May 15th is the day our 3rd and 4th graders will be sitting for their STAAR reading test, and 5th graders have an opportunity to retest in reading.

On May 16, our 5th graders take their STAAR science test.

During the STAAR tests, we need volunteers to assist with test administration. We have two time slots available each day and will need volunteers on Monday, May 14, Tuesday, May 15, and again on Wednesday, May 16. Volunteers are needed between 8 am and noon each day. If your schedule will allow you to help, please view our sign-up sheet here. Many thanks!

While students are taking their STAAR tests, visitors and "non-STAAR" volunteers are unable to be on our campus. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you love numbers, our PTO would love your help!

The WCHE PTO is seeking help from 2 volunteers who can audit their books. This usually takes only a couple of hours, and the PTO provides a handy checklist and well-organized files for the volunteers to work with during their audit.

If you love numbers, our PTO would love your help! Timing is flexible. Please email the PTO President with any questions and/or to volunteer to help. Thanks!
