College Scorecard data provide essential details for students and prospective students across all colleges, helping them to make informed decisions about their postsecondary education plans. The data also shine a spotlight on accessible colleges that are serving their students well, including by closing gaps in the completion rates among students of color compared with white students and by ensuring programs lead to positive career outcomes with manageable levels of debt. Check it out here: https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/

Notable People and Events as shared on morning announcements
2/22- Today we will learn more about key dates in the civil rights movement. On August 29, Congress passed the Voting Rights Bill of 1957, the first major civil rights legislation in more than 75 years. On August 28, 1963 the March on Washington was the largest civil rights demonstration ever. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. On October 29, 1969 the Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in schools had to end at once and that unitary school systems were required.
2/23- Did you know the following inventions were made by black inventors? The list is long, but some of the items we really count on include: the three light traffic signal, home security system, the mailbox, the ironing board, refrigerated trucks, automatic elevator doors, the early light bulb and IBM computers.
2/24- Shirley Chisholm kicked the door in for African American women holding major roles in government. She first served as an educational consultant for New York City’s Bureau of Child Welfare and ran for New York State Assembly in 1964. Chisholm was elected in 1968 as the first African American Congresswoman. She served from 1969 to 1983 representing New York’s 12th District.
2/25- Alice Coachman became the first African American woman from any country to win an Olympic Gold Medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. She set the record for the high jump at the Olympics, leaping to 5 feet and 6 ⅛ inches. Four years later, she became the first Black female athlete to endorse an international consumer product when she signed on as a Coca-Cola spokesperson. Over the course of her career, she won 34 national titles. She was officially inducted into the National Track-and-Field Hall of Fame in 1975 and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004.

I truly believe in this work and it is needed more than ever in the lives of our teens... but honestly, it is GREAT info for us all! I welcome your feedback. Call me 772-419-5758 or email me ljudd@irsc.edu
Dr. Judd
Every day is a celebration!
Make a Difference Mondays! Did you make a difference in someone’s life through a random act of kindness recently? We want to hear about it! Add those ideas of how to add kindness to the banner outside the front office. Every day is a good day to show someone you care!
Take Care Tuesdays! ... and the weather could not be more perfect! Getting outdoors is so important, particularly for teenagers. Getting outside and exercise is crucial for our mental health. Now more than ever, teens are widely disconnected from nature and are spending copious amounts of time indoors. Being outside can reduce stress and just a simple walk can reduce anxiety or worry which is a vital mental health strategy that teens need to learn. Take some time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine this week!
Way to Go Wednesdays! Today’s shout out goes to Matt Foust who is always ready and willing to jump in and help. Most recently, Dr. Judd needed help preparing SAT books and without hesitation, Matt helped her move a big box and offered to help with anything else needed. Small acts make a big difference!
Thankful Thursdays! Though the attention might not always go to those making the right choices, Clark staff is incredibly grateful for all of the students who consistently show up on time, participate in class with a positive attitude and mindset, and treat others with kindness and respect. You may not think staff notices all of you doing the right thing, but we do see you and are very grateful for you.
Fun Fact Fridays! On this day in 1919 Oregon is the 1st state to tax gasoline (1 cent per gallon). Also, in 1924 Marie Boyd scores 156 points in Maryland HS basketball game (final score was 163-3), and in 1945 World War II: Turkey declares war on Germany.
