I need your help
Sorry for the late email. I am actually just getting in from school
I need to make everyone aware of something that happened in theater today.
We are having a HUGE problem with talking and not taking what we are doing in theater seriously. It isn’t 100% of them, but it is the vast majority. I am to the point where I am going to have to start issuing discipline steps.....this is something I never thought I would ever have to do in this class.
I want it to be fun; however, we are also there to work. I shouldn’t have to ask them to stop talking, literally 50+ times in a 48 min class period.
I need your help, to please remind them that we are there to work. We are there to learn a show and to perform to best of our ability. I know I hold them to a high standard, but they have proven time and time again that they can rise to the occasion.
We are the BEST middle school theater program in Rutherford County and this is the reason why we are the only middle school in the county to havebeen approved to have the option of musical theater as an elective.
There are times when not everyone is on stage and they are sitting in the audience. But, when the conversations in the audience are louder than the people on stage there is a problem, and then add to that the people on the stage talking every time we stop to make a correction.
I have asked them all to make sure they bring something to do for the times that they are not the ones on the stage working.
Again, this isn’t 100% but it is enough of them that this email was necessary.
Your kids are incredible young people and I love each and every one of them, which is why this email and the thought of having to issue steps breaks my heart. I just don’t want to have another day like today. There are 56 of them and 1 of me (plus Mrs Gramling) and some days it feels like all I do is manage behavior instead of running a successful class. Today was one of those days.
