Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter

Volume 24, Issue 25, March 3, 2017

Principal's Letter

Dear Thunderbird Families,

I want to thank you everyone who came to Thornhill's Black History Month Oratorical on Monday. It was an exceptional performance by all of our classes. It's so wonderful to see our students celebrating our diverse cultural heritage. We have learned so much from all of our students. Their powerful messages of justice, courage and fairness that are the legacy of our history provide a testament to our continuing need to oppose oppression and our belief that anyone can be whomever they want to become and pursue their own trajectory.

School Auction, March 11!

I look forward to seeing you all there and supporting our school!

Shout Outs:

I want to give an exceptionally large SHOUT OUT to THE PFC who does so much to support our school -- and they volunteer for FREE. The PFC mission to support Thornhill has been an invaluable asset our school's success. From fundraising to putting on events, our PFC works incredibly hard to support your school. Thank you PFC for all that you do.

Extra special thanks to Martin and his team for helping out with traffic control in front of the school. YOU Rock!

Parent Volunteers--Thank you so much for supporting your child's class. Seeing you here means a lot to all of us and our kids count on seeing you!

HIGHLIGHT of last week: I visited our fifth graders on the Marin Headlands overnight field trip. It was so amazing to see our fifth graders learning science outdoors. Although it was cold, we had nothing but sunshine every day!

REMINDERS-

Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up. There will be minimum days March 13-17.

PLEASE REMEMBER to check the school website for events, etc.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Daubenspeck

Reaching Our Fundraising Goals

I want to thank the many folks who work behind the scenes for endless hours to help raise money that directly benefits all of our kids.

As a community, we have done a fantastic job this year with our fundraising efforts. From our Back-to-School Donation Drive, to our Walk-a-Thon, 5th grade Popcorn Sales, Amazon Smile, and the Dining Out Program, we have raised over $230,000 this year. Amazing! That said, we still need to reach our year-end-goal of raising over $350,000 to make our budget. I believe we are in a position to exceed our fundraising goal for 2017 by coming together on March 11 for our annual auction party.

Auction planning is underway -- there will be great wine, spirits, beer, food, music, and company. And it's all for the the goal of raising money to better our kids and the Thornhill community. The event is sure to a ton of fun. And we have so many great items to auction off -- from luxury box seats for the Warriors to a “staycation” in San Francisco, and from a fun day in the Napa Valley to incredible restaurants to Thornhill class baskets and parties. So get out that fabulous party dress, great pair of shoes or funky sportscoat that you have been dying to wear, and come enjoy an evening with good people.

Dads Club--Thornhill Night at the A's

Opening Day for the 2017 baseball season is about a month away, and our hometown Oakland Athletics are down in Arizona getting ready for the upcoming season.

And Thornhill's Dads Club is also getting ready for what is always one of the year's most-popular events and fundraisers: The annual Thornhill Night at the A's.

This year's night will take place on Friday, April 21, when the A's face the Seattle Mariners (the hometown and favorite team of your humble newsletter editor, Rex Crum). Thornhill Elementary School students, parents, and their friends and families can purchase discounted tickets in two different seating sections.

Tickets cost $32 for Field Level seats and $20 for the Plaza Outfield section. A portion of each ticket sold will go directly back to the school.

Purchase your tickets here: www.athletics.com/thornhill

We'll see you at the ballpark!
