Region
The mountains and basins regions have a combination of deserts, mountains, plateaus and basins. The people in the mountain and basins have crops such as cotton, cantaloupes, and few pecan trees. The natural and economic resources are desert plants and farming, tourism. The economy comes from farming and tourism. This region is the driest part of the state; it only gets 8 - 20 inches of rain.
El Paso
El Paso is the most populous cities in the mountains and basins region. It is located in the top, left corner of the mountains and basins region. It is the fastest and only transportation near the biggest sight-seeing areas. Spanish Franciscan Friars founded El Paso at a mountain pass; this area became a small agricultural producer near the Rio Grande. From their El Paso got more populace and grew to what it is today.
Big Bend National Park
Big Bend is one of the most popular parks in this region; located near the bottom part of the mountain and basins region. It is the second and one of the ten only parks in the United States that has become a U.S. national park. Big Bend national park also stretches from desert shrub, beautiful grasslands, mountains, springs, and wetlands nearby the Rio Grande; and it offers over 450 species of animal. The Big Bend Park got its name because it was located on one of the major bends in the Rio Grande. Before it was a national park, big bend was just a state park until its beauty was recognized and President Franklin D. Roosevelt took a personal interest in Big Bend. This is when the park came to be and became a national state park.
Guadelupe Peak
Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in the mountains and basins region. The rocky mountains height is 8,749 ft. which is located in the north, central part of this region. This Guadalupe Mountains offer hiking, trails, views of wildlife, and other events. Guadalupe Peak also offers slight showers near the end of summer, but can be very warm throughout the winter with chances of snow, and rain. This mountain is typical to the landscape. Our class described it with cactuses, desert, small sand dunes, very few trees, and rocky. As you can see in this picture how close this is to the mountain.
