Milwaukie High School/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts
A Letter from Your Principal, Mrs. Kellogg
Dear Mustang Families,
I can hardly believe that it is March! There is a lot happening this month. Our Juniors start state testing, we will finish up forecasting for next year's classes before Spring Break, and we have a ton of fun activities taking place with Milwaukie Cares Week, which begins the week of March 13-17. This is a time to show our care for each other and our community. One of the ways we will do this is through our Canned Food Drive that takes place on March 6-17. Please help our cause in any way you can. March also marks the beginning of National Women’s History Month. Last, but not least, we then end the month with Spring Break! I hope everyone takes the opportunity to appreciate each other and show kindness to your entire community.
Kim Kellogg

COUNSELING
Supporting Mustangs to plan for their futures is a significant part of our work as School Counselors, and forecasting for next year’s classes is an important step in that work. This month, we finish the forecasting process by returning to core classes to collect forecasting sheets and check students’ requests in StudentVue. Families, please check in with your Mustangs about their short term and long term ideas for their futures! This is an opportunity to connect the work they’re doing in school with the possibilities that follow.
Here is our upcoming forecasting schedule:
Feb 27th week: 9th, 10th & 11th grade Forecasting Retrieval
Mar 6th week: 8th & 10th Grade Forecasting Retrieval
Mar 13th week: Student Forecasting Clean-up
Mar 20th week: Student Forecasting Completion
March 21: Last day to turn in Forecasting Sheets and submit requests online
Mar 27th week: SPRING BREAK
MAA Acceptance and Forecasting - deadline to apply to Milwaukie Academy of the Arts is March 15. Acceptance letters will go out by the end of the following week. Out of district applicants will forecast on April 11.
Last day to drop a class without penalty is March 6.
Forecasting Verification Coming Soon.
Please have all forecasting in before March 24. In April we will be sending out a notice for you to verify your forecasting, meaning are these the courses you really want to take. Once the due date for verification has passed there will no longer be changes to forecasting and we will start working on logistics for building the schedule for next year. Be looking for this communication.
COLLEGE & CAREER
Portland State University is merging their Four Years Free program and their Transfers Finish Free program into the new Tuition-Free Degree program:
Eligibility:
Enroll part or full time, PSU will cover 6 to 16 credits per term. Students are eligible to continue receiving Tuition-Free Degree as long as they enroll in at least 6 credits per term. (Through spring 2023, students are required to enroll in at least 12 credits per term.) The program covers up to 16 credits per term and covers differential tuition. Review the website to learn what it does not cover.
Eligibility is transitioning from term-based (up to 12 terms) to credit-based (up to 225 total credits, this includes transfer credits).
Students can start at PSU in fall, winter, or spring. Prior to fall 2023, only transfer students were able to start in these terms, but now any undergraduate student can enroll in fall, winter, or spring and qualify.
Re-enrolling PSU students who did not previously qualify for Four Years Free or Transfers Finish Free, but do qualify for Tuition-Free Degree will get this tuition benefit. Re-enrolling students will maintain their eligibility if they previously had it, as long as they are still Pell-eligible according to their FAFSA.
Students are no longer required to submit high school or college transcripts to confirm initial eligibility in the program. Students are still required to submit transcripts for admission purposes.
Deadlines: The deadlines are listed on the website and have been adjusted to align with PSU's application deadlines for each term. The fall term deadline for Tuition-Free Degree for everyone aligns with the first year application deadline.
