Home of the Champions: Work Together, Win Together!
Happy President's Day Champions,
Nothing like a three day weekend to cap off a great week of school. We are continuing to hold steady and can say that we have remained at 0 active cases for two consecutive weeks now. We're in the 4th quarter (metaphorically speaking) and about to complete one of the most historic comebacks in all of history! Stay focused Champs; we've got this! All we need to do is stick to the game plan. Since returning in January both students and staff have been executing our safety measures with precision. And even though things are trending in the right direction, its still important that we remain vigilant with the following: staying home when feeling sick, washing your hands/sanitizing often, wearing a properly fitted mask when on school property, and practicing social distance when feasible. These fundamental strategies have been working well for us and with an opponent like COVID-19, we don't want to let our guard down too soon. With that said, please help me by reminding you student(s) to keep their masks on until they are off of school property or safely in a vehicle. I do see students starting to take them off as soon as they exit the building when being dismissed. We are so grateful for all your help and assistance with these efforts this year.
Ok, this past week was a short one with the two half days. I hope you were able to connect with your child(ren)'s teacher(s) during conferences. Given all they've been through this past year, it's important to check in academically and discuss the progress being made and understand the overall affect that COVID has had on their learning. Of course we are not where we want to be, but considering the circumstances we should be proud of where we are and how far we've come. Along the way we have picked up some skills and grown in ways that wouldn't have been possible pre-pandemic. Yet, here we are, committed as ever, with quite a ways to go in the months ahead. Currently, we are in the process of taking mid year assessment data and targeting individual skill deficits with strategic instructional intervention. Now that it looks like we will be sticking to in person learning, we will be able to monitor student progress and adjust accordingly. One valuable tool that all students have access to is called Moby Max. Students can work daily to boost proficiency in both Math and ELA. I highly encourage all students to spend 15-20 minutes a day using this program at home.
Ok, now for some of the fun that was had last week. So, for Valentine's Day this year things looked a little different. Thankfully, we were able to still honor this timeless tradition by having students bring in their cards and any items ahead of time so they could sit and still be safely distributed. Below you will see some pictures capturing many smiles and memories being made despite COVID's firm presence affecting our normal practices. Thank you for your understanding and doing your best to help us provide somethings for students to celebrate and look forward to. All in all, we ended with happy students leaving to enjoy their three day weekend.
This week we are conducting our annual hearing screening. Other than that, it looks to be a fairly normal week. The following are just a couple reminders. The Growing Carlson survey is open to all parents and guardians. Please take a moment to provide us with some feedback on how we are doing. We appreciate the support and time to partner with us to help make Carlson the best school it can be for your child(ren). Also, if you still haven't completed your student's intent to return you will probably receive a call from us to confirm plans for next school year. The link below can still be accessed as well. Also, every week we are accepting new applications for our Kindergarten programs, if you have a sibling starting next year and haven't completed an online registration form, please do so as soon as possible. While we can guarantee you a spot at Carlson, we may not be able to guarantee a program choice should one reach capacity. The link below can be used to submit your registration form. Please help us spread the word to any families you might know considering Carlson for either the rest of this school year or next. We would be happy to meet with them and or schedule a tour. Please contact the front office for any assistance with either the intent form, online registration, open enrollment, or to schedule a meeting or tour of campus.
