Construction Update

Construction progress was minimal this week because the ground was too wet to work on the pad grading and utilities work. The hope is the that the weather will cooperate this week.

High School - Placements/Updates

Language Arts teachers put students’ scores/grade level equivalent information from the high school placement test in PowerSchool as a non-weighted grade to ensure that parents actually receive that score. Click on “View” on the right to see more details. Below is a chart from the Sequoia Union High School District to help you determine your student’s placement. Students who scored way below grade level will take a second exam this week on the computer to fine-tune their placement.

We are hoping to get the students’ math placement scores this week and communicate them the following week in the same way. We are waiting on UC Berkeley to grade the exams.

On Tuesday, March 12, students will have a presentation in their Social Studies class from Sequoia/Woodside counselors to learn more about high school and class choices. On Tuesday, March 19, from 5-7 pm, there will be a mandatory presentation in the library for families and schedules can be turned in at this time. More details will be sent home as the date gets closer.

Accelerated Math For Next Year

All sixth and seventh grade students will be taking a math test like last year in the spring (probably March or April) to confirm placement for next year. There will be a multiple choice part on the computer and a written part where they show their thinking. Once I have more information about dates I will share this information. For those who qualify and are in grade level math this year, there will be work over the summer to fill in some gaps from the instruction they didn’t receive this year.

Students who are currently in grade level math and want some more challenging work and lessons will have the opportunity to work with me starting in February through April. (For those of you who don’t know, I was a middle school math teacher in Cupertino). I will provide dates and times in the next two weeks. Some of the material has to stay in the classroom so students will have to attend in person to do that work. Other work and projects can be done outside of our meeting time.

Shrek The Musical

Students began reading through the script and learning the music for Shrek Jr. this past week after school. It is not too late to join! If you still want to be a part of this fun experience, please get more information in the office this week.

Grand Canyon

It is not too late for 7th graders to sign up to go to the Grand Canyon. If your child is interested, please email Maestro Alfredo, aoropeza@rcsdk8.net.
