Career Awareness Poster Contest

*Students will design a poster to show what they know about a career/careers. There will be one winner per grade level.
* Grade level winners will be placed in a district-wide contest
* Winner of district contest receives prizes and their design professionally posted at all schools (WOW!!!)

January Theme- Responsibility

Guidance week will be held January 19th-January 22nd

*Being responsible means others trust you to do things that you say you're going to do
*You are accountable for your actions
*Responsibility is the ability to make intelligent choices based on good values
*When you make a mistake, and you offer to make amends instead of blaming others or making excuses, you are showing responsibility

*Students will hear announcements on famous African Americans past, and present, local and abroad.
*Students will have a dress up theme day on the last day of the month 2/29/16
*Pride Rally events highlighting African American Advancement

*Love is that special feeling for people, that fills your heart and runs through your bones
*You show your love for friends, family, and community through your smile, kind words, and generous acts.
*When you enjoy treating people with care and kindness because you value them, you are showing love for them.

In connection with Black History Month, students will embrace loving others and respecting others differences

Goodies with Gilliam

Friday, Feb. 5th, 9am

Austin Library

*Come have some breakfast
*Come learn about the wonderful things happening at Austin from Principal Gilliam
*Counselor will be doing a lesson with parents to encourage family communication (make and take or eat).
*Assist Principal Sandra Mejia will be available foe any questions concerning student behavior success and translation for limited English speakers

Campus Job Shadowing Opportunity

Monday, Feb. 29th, 8am to Friday, March 11th, 3:15pm

815 Northwest 7th Street

Grand Prairie, TX

* Students 3-5th grade will participate in the application, interview, and job process
* Students will complete applications in class with their teacher
* Teachers will pick their top applicant
*Applicant winners from each 3-5th grade class will then be interviewed by campus staff
*The winner of the interviewing process will shadow our principal Gilliam for a day in May
