Hello everyone!
As the school year starts to develop its own rhythm our school staff keeps coming back to our focus of developing a safe and supportive school climate and culture for all students and staff. We are doing things everyday in school to make sure we are keeping our "eyes on the prize."
Here are some things we are doing every day/every week with students:
- Advisory/WIN Time. WIN (What I need) Time happens on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week and involves every student participating in either a support period or an enrichment period. Every student in the school is guaranteed at least one enrichment period per week. Some get more.
- Restorative Chats; there have been some conflicts between students and students and sometimes even between students and staff; Restorative Chats bring the parties together to discuss compromises, solutions, pain, loss, forgiveness etc.
- Building relationships with students; every day we are checking in with students to make sure we are supporting them in any way we can.
We are doing more but this is just a small sample.
Every week is big at the Dearborn and this week will be no different! On Thursday the 18th many of our grade 11-12 students, some grade 10 students, and several staff will have the opportunity to attend the world renowned "Hamilton." What a great opportunity for our students! If that wasn't big enough we were informed that our own Kenny Jn Lyes, Grade 10, wrote a great poem as part of a class assignment with Ms. DeJesus and his piece was chosen by the Hamilton crew to be performed in front of everyone next Thursday! Congratulations Kenny and thank you for supporting him Ms. DeJesus.
On Thursday evening, from 5:30-7:30 pm we will open our doors to friends, parents, and guardians within the Dearborn Community! Ms. Olsen, Mr. Brown and the rest of the Dearborn staff hope to see you all here Thursday!
Looking ahead: Massachusetts Governor Baker is visiting the Dearborn on October 22nd!

Grade 6 visits Thompson Island on an overnight trip.
Last week, 6th grade students spent two days on Thompson Island. Students explored the island, participating in Science explorations while team-building and setting personal goals. Students supported and lifted up their peers during difficult situations, while being challenged to push their thinking and limits. Students showed perseverance, participating in all activities despite many mosquitos and a temporary lack of running water on the island!
A big thank you to teachers Ms. Langer, Ms. Hughes, and Ms. Joseph for leading the trip!
