First Grade at O.C.T.

December 7-11

Highlight of the Week

Students are learning how to budget money for our PBL this nine weeks. Ask your child how much money they saved, donated or spent. The special folders and pencils from AT & T stadium have made it even more fun!

App of the Week

Scholastic Book Fair app:

Students used the book fair app when they previewed the books that are available to purchase in the library. Students used the app to create a wish list of some of their favorite books.

Changing Weather

Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for outside play. If we feel that any child is not dressed appropriately we will have him/her stay inside during recess. Under the district's cold weather policy we can not go outside if the temperature and/or wind chill is below 37 degrees. Because our weather can change from unseasonably warm to freezing cold very quickly, please always send a jacket.

Shhhh…It’s a Secret!

On Monday, December 7th, you will find your child’s letter to Santa Claus in an envelope in his/her folder. These were written in class and copies will be displayed at school. The students have been told that the originals were mailed to Santa. Please type a response to your child from Santa, print on the stationary paper provided and send it back to me in the envelope provided (NOT folded) by Monday, December 14th. We ask that you use size 14 Comic Sans MS font and your response must be only one page. The letters will be delivered and passed out during our class holiday party on December 17th. This activity always tends to create great excitement and happiness during the party. Thank you so much for taking the time to make a magical memory for your child!

Holiday Program

Our holiday program is Tuesday, December 15th. We encourage all students to dress in their favorite holiday colors/attire that day. First Graders will perform for OCT students

& teachers at 2:00 pm and then perform for parents/family members at 6:30 pm. that evening. Please have your child meet Mrs. Vencill in the music room no later than 6:15 pm. We look forward to seeing you that evening!

A Gift for Your Child

During the class holiday party on Thursday, December 17th, students will be receiving a small gift from me. I thought it would also be nice if each student received a book from his/her parents. The Scholastic Book Fair will begin Monday and students will be making a wish list of books they would love to be able to read at home. Please provide your child with a book to open at our party. Wrap the book in one package, label with your child’s name and send it to school anytime between now and December 15th. This will give your child two gifts to open during the holiday party!
